@ALionEye My Naperville Central HS guidance counselor told me I wouldn’t get in to Illinois. Re-taking the ACT was the best decision I ever made!

I went to Illinois because of the 1989 Final Four. I was a sophomore and I went to my HS guidance counselor to find out what I needed to have GPA & ACT-wise. Today, somewhere in this state, there’s a kid having the same “what do I need to do?” conversation. Great decision, kid.

After observing many people like Bryan over the years, I realized something profound: 🪙 “Spiritual Chasers” and “Success Chasers” (in the business world) are two sides of the same coin. They’re the same person in different packaging—they wear different costumes and chase different things, but they’re on the same path: Forever chasing… but never finding the peace they seek. We follow these Chasers with keen interest. They move with such certainty that you start to think maybe they’ve figured it out. But just below the surface lurks fear and restlessness. They chase because they believe the missing piece is just around the corner—if they just accumulate enough money or have a more intense trip, then they’ll find peace. It’s no coincidence that Bryan was wildly successful in business before he pivoted to chase something else with equal vigor. 🪙 It’s just the other side of the same coin. To be clear, I have no problem with making money or tripping balls or pursuing growth and enlightenment. Check, check, check—I’ve done all of the above. But in my experience, the people who are most at peace—and have the best lives—are those who aren’t chasing anything. It’s the fisherman from the famous parable of the fisherman and the businessman. It's people who live in the here and now and recognize that they already have everything they need to be happy. We’ve all tasted that clarity. For me, it happens when I’m rock climbing in a beautiful place or when my family is rolling in laughter at the dinner table. It’s in those moments when I realize: This is enough. What am I chasing?

This was the most profound experience of my life. I am stunned beyond comprehension. This molecule is without peer. The 27mg dose opened up what felt like pure consciousness and intelligence. A majestic reveal of existence itself. In all its incomprehensible glory and majesty. It is impossible to explain with words. Whatever you imagine, multiply it by 1,000 and then add infinite width and depth and dimensions. But entrance was not granted without prerequisite. Existence demanded that I submit. That I say yes; without attachment and without condition. Yes to existence; yes to the dissolution of self; yes to release control; yes, to all. My ego registered the ask and panicked. It wanted control. It was desperate for control. It pleaded to escape from the torrent of light and essence that threatened to rip my sanity into chards. The urge to eject was overwhelming. Terror thundered throughout my mind and body. It took everything within me to release. I overcame and was treated with bliss that defies imagination. A euphoria colored with perfect harmony of all things. An orchestra of essence washed over me and swept me up in dance. It was home. The highest aspiration of intelligent life. For some reason, stored and tucked away as the ultimate prize. A single concept emerged in omnipresence: we cannot grok the preciousness of our existence. Yet it is everything we’ve ever wanted and more. The state we long for without knowing it exists. This caused me great pain and heartache. A swell of loyalty and devotion emerged inside me, pledging allegiance to existence. To become a warrior and caretaker of life on earth. To protect at any cost the candle of consciousness that has miraculously emerged in this part of the galaxy. What awaits will wipe all your tears, soothe all your sorrows, and infinitely exceed your wants.

Recording a solo pod later today focusing on #illini football, including a big in-state commit and what we learned this week from media availability. But I will also take some of your questions for a short mailbag segment if you had anything. What’s on your mind?

@aaronalley First thought that comes to mind is appetite. Most people are dealing with weight issues as a result of their never-ending appetite, and it's the quality of foods that go in there, but I'm only putting that in because I'm trying to fill in a word that stands for A.

8 health trends that need to die in 2026: 1) Cold plunging. Good for dopamine but studies show it blunts muscle growth and it doesn't improve recovery in a meaningful way. For most people it's become a virtue signaling marathon on Instagram rather than an actual health tool.

3) Obsessive biohacking gadgets. CGMs when you're not diabetic. 4 wearables on your wrist. Biofeedback devices on your nightstand. You're turning normal body variation into anxiety. Steps. Sleep. Weights. Nature. That covers 90% of the game. Stop overcomplicating it.

I eat this breakfast every day. I call it Lean Body Glop and it looks like slop but it tastes delicious. Recipe: - 250g low fat Greek Yogurt - One scoop weigh protein powder - Teaspoon psyllium husk - 100g frozen fruit (strawberries, blueberries, mangoes work best) Around 300 calories, 40-50 protein, good amount of fiber. I start my day with this and it makes getting lean easy.

I haven't been able to get my writing brain in the right spot the last 50 days. With 2-3 podcast episodes per week it's been difficult to sort written/spoken words. But I think I got it back. Wrote a very Robert football article. Here it is (unlocked): illiniboard.com/how-you-might-…

Standing at 7,000 feet in the Rockies this morning and I finally get it. One of my clients retired at 58 specifically so he could hike these trails while his knees still worked. He told me, "Kurt, I watched my dad save until 75, retire with $2 million, and spend the next 10 years too tired to do anything but sit on the couch." The altitude here is no joke. You're gasping for air after 100 yards if you're not in shape. Hydration is brutal. Your body works twice as hard for everything. My client hikes 8 miles +. At 62, he's crushing his bucket list because he retired early enough to still be healthy. Here's what nobody tells you about retirement planning: The money is only half the equation. Retire at 70 with $3 million but bad knees, a weak heart, and no energy? You'll spend it on medical bills and cruises where you never leave the ship. Retire at 58 with less and a healthy body? You'll actually live the life you saved for. People obsess over account balances. But I'm watching clients who waited too long struggle to walk a mile, while the ones who left earlier are hiking mountains. The brutal truth: Your body has an expiration date on adventure. Your 401(k) doesn't. Plan for both.

Thanks for reading. I'm sure I have more, but I'll leave you with one more: You may not know it, but you're a walking lottery winner. When you factor in every ancestor, timing, and genetic combination, your chances of being here are 1 in 400 trillion. These odds are like winning the lottery 12,996 times in a row. Start acting like it. Thanks for reading. Gonna go eat some birthday cake now.
