Too little investment in crude oil capacity & prices skyrocket, pushing demand forcibly down with steep welfare costs. Too much & prices crash & trillions in CAPEX will be lost

Dear @ft, the @iea in no way decides the future of oil, that’s an emergent property of demand & supply. It may help form investment expectations; instead of denying the reality of Chinese EVs & broader climate policy, the @iea is helping the O&G industry & its workers #cdnpoli

People are socialized to see history as a boring, dry subject, a bunch of dates and names. Instead, we need to teach them to see it as how the present came to be, and how it might evolve going forward. Then it might be seen as the powerful conditional forecasting device it is.

@lherman8 @Pembina You would think. But some folks try very hard not to see. In Alberta, last year's wildfires were widely blamed on eco-terrorist arsonists trying to force the public to accept the Liberal globalist climate agenda. Even the firefighters were alleged to be UN operatives.

@bataille_chris You mean transition phase of CBAM, right? First phase of ETS was 2005. This is a couple of steps back from that on the path to policy. Once US has the data they can think about what policy serves US interest, and use the methodologies developed to make policy accordingly.

Someone may need to edit me, but my understanding is PROVE IT is the US equivalent of the initial phase of the EU ETS that started Jan 2023, where they started the process of learning how to collect the data necessary for border carbon tariffs/adjustments eenews.net/articles/bipar…

Meaning the low costs of renewables can't get passed along, as marginal producer is typically coal or gas-fired.

LOL - 3.5GW solar plant built for $0.61/watt all-in. Cost per kWh probably sub 2 cents per kWh, add batteries, maybe 3-4 cents. Only other power that comes close is really big wind. No concrete foundations, no grading. Just inert steel driven into the ground. As we use to say, it’s a placeholder for future development with all minimal footprint. #SolarIsEatingTheWorld
