@KimTallBear Programs aside, I included a ‘relevance’ mark to my grade schemes this past term and it was quite positive! Finding ways to deter students from pan-Indigenizing their assignments and/or self-Indigenization. I found it effective!
English

@KimTallBear Maybe value in having Nation-specific programs? Cape Breton University is really the only place in Atlantic Canada, where they have a Mi’kmaw Studies program (instead of Indigenous Studies). And the scholarly work from the institution is almost always Mi’kmaw-based because of it.

Weskewikwa'sit mijua'ji’j - Baby Smiles is at the Atlantic Native Teachers' Education Conference in Eskasoni this week! At the conference? Stop by & say kwe' to Floyd! Not at the conference? Read/listen to the book in Mi'kmaw and English: mhwns.ca/babysmiles #BabyTeeth

Funny thing is, it came up as a Google scholar notification. But @UCalgary has either removed the entire publication or put it behind a firewall. Only the synopsis is available.

I'm anticipating a mixed reaction to this one (no pun intended, I promise) - now open access. Thanks @CJPS_RCSP Currents Section for such a rapid and straight forward publishing process.

@KimTallBear @Anthony_J_Perry @erikatwurth @bluefancyshawl @KimTallBear definitely some interesting studies to be done for sure! 'What motivates white ppl to claim ancestry to a particular nation(s) over others?' - would make a great start to a thesis
English

@KimTallBear @Anthony_J_Perry @erikatwurth @bluefancyshawl But on 2nd thought, this is likely the common theme for all of our nations.
Would be great if @UCBerkeley or @BrownUniversity invited an actual Mi'kmaw scholar to their schools. For me, the status quo apologies just aren't enough anymore.
English

@KimTallBear @Anthony_J_Perry @erikatwurth @bluefancyshawl @KimTallBear I don't know if this is my own confirmation bias here. But I can't help but feel that a majority of pretendians tend to lay claim to being Mi'kmaq. All while narratives on Mi'kmaw identity from actual Mi'kmaw people, seem to get left out in the national discourse.
English

@NativeApprops Maybe some confirmation bias on my part. But always hard not to feel that this is a consistent trend.
English

@NativeApprops Thank you for your work! As a Mi'kmaw academic, what is upsetting is that it seems to be consistent that many pretendians claim to be Mi'kmaq. But what we Mi'kmaq actually believe when it comes to our identity often gets left out of the national discourse.

As we refine #recontact practices in clinical genetics the (in)equity implications of a shared model of responsibility must be considered. The current model is falling short--potentially failing those that could need it most. Our thoughts in @ejhg_journal: rdcu.be/c8gId

1. To me, the motivation of academia to bring pretindians in has a fairly clear root.
Way too many Indig. ‘equity’ hires are rooted in a quota system. How? b/c academic admin almost always have to justify a need (Aka, you haven’t met the quota) for designation to be approved.

Universities colleges & arts have moral & legal oblig to ensure students staff & faculty grants jobs & awards for Indigenous ppl go to Indigenous ppl & same 4 Indig elders advisors consultants & lecturers. Reconciliation demands u deal w fakes & take burden off us. #pretendians
