Brilliant #innovation in this alarm clock at Castle Pena in Sintra, Portugal. It has two parts. On the right side is a sundial. On the left side is a magnifying glass aimed at the fuse of a tiny cannon. Every morning the cannon is armed, and at noon the sunlight ignites the fuse.

@MerriamWebster WOW! I worked on these at my first professional job as a full-time software engineer, back in the late 80s. (At "Proximity", which made the data compression technology for spell-checkers. The company was acquired by "Franklin", where I worked until returning to college in 1990.
