@younghavok You wouldnt have nintendo sueing pocketpair this viciously if they weren't in the same league. Maybe people want games from the bigger companies to step their game up by bragging about them losing to smaller companies? Theres this sad illusion of "too big to fail". Not this time.

“Outearned” Last I checked 700 million is less than half of the 1.6 billion in revenue that scarlet and violet earned. It’s also less than the 750+ million that ZA did. Even when speculating, palworld is not in the same league as Pokemon.
Dinnu daniel@daniel_adinnu

Palworld has now outsold every mainline Pokémon game released since 1996. That’s not hyperbole, it’s the actual historical bar the new estimate clears. Alinea Analytics puts Palworld’s lifetime sales at roughly 30.5 million copies following its July 10 exit from early access, with $700 million in gross software revenue. According to Serebii’s Joe Merrick, no single Pokémon game has crossed 30 million units since Pokémon Red, Green, and Blue in 1996, which makes the comparison driving headlines this week not just clickbait framing but an accurate, verifiable claim. A creature collecting game built almost entirely by a small independent studio has now out-sold thirty years of the franchise it was accused of copying, using a single title’s numbers as the yardstick. The platform breakdown is where the real story sits. An estimated 86% of total sales, roughly 27.1 million copies, come from Steam alone, and the post 1.0 numbers only sharpen that gap. Since launch, Steam picked up nearly 1.5 million additional copies generating $25 million, PlayStation added about 300,000 copies for $7 million, and Xbox managed just under 70,000 copies for roughly $1 million, a fraction of the other platforms despite Microsoft’s console install base. The reason traces directly to Xbox Game Pass, where Palworld has been available since launch. Alinea’s playtime data shows nearly half of Xbox players dropped the game before the five hour mark, compared to just 12% on Steam and 23% on PlayStation, and only 8% of Xbox players crossed 100 hours versus 20% of Steam owners. Game Pass access didn’t just fail to convert Xbox players into buyers, it appears to have actively suppressed the depth of engagement compared to players who paid for the game directly. None of these figures are officially confirmed by Pocketpair, Steam, Sony, or Microsoft. Alinea’s estimates are built from tracked storefront and engagement data rather than publisher disclosure, the standard caveat for any third party sales analysis in gaming. What isn’t speculative is the shape of the platform split itself, mirrored independently by at least one other Steam-specific revenue tracker showing hundreds of millions in gross revenue from Steam sales alone, a figure consistent with Alinea’s broader estimate even before PlayStation and Xbox are added in. A studio that once got dismissed as making a Pokémon clone just quietly out-earned three decades of the games it was compared to, and it did it primarily on a platform where players actually had to pay to find out if the criticism was fair.

@Pirat_Nation I don't know anyone talking about this movie, yet social media can't shut up about. Geez give a rest. I don't think this movie being a success or not means anything. It looks pretty boring.

According to WIRED, the backlash against Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey “failed tremendously.” Before the movie’s release, people called for a boycott over its diverse cast, modern dialogue, and other creative choices, labeling it “woke” According to WIRED, those boycott efforts had little impact. IMAX screenings sold out, resale tickets reached as high as $1,000, and the film is expected to earn over $200 million worldwide in its opening weekend. It also holds a 96% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.

@_bazztek Yeah they should have made 2 barely different versions and charged them 80 bucks each for the same experience. Silly pocketpair! Its almost like they don't need to be greedy to make a massive amount of profit and fame.

This would be impressive if it had doubled its early access launch peak, but it is currently below 50% of its launch peak CCU and with only 16k new user reviews even added since 1.0 launched last week, it means barely anyone playing Palworld right now are even new players and are just below 50% of the Early Access players checking back in

@BambiFinessin Quite the opposite. After playing palworld, I had hard time going back to pokemon. Because pokemon felt so detached. You capture and battle and....not much else. Where as palworld, the creatures can be loved, mistreated, battle, help with chores, etc. Pokemon feel less alive.

I think Palworld players would get more people to get into their game if they genuinely would cut this idea that its a Pokémon competitor. Its ark with pocket monsters and thats cool but it doesnt scratch that Pokémon itch. TemTem was more of a competitor and it was cool
GameCryptid@GameCryptidVG

I cannot believe there is a type of person who thinks Pokemon would be improved if you had to collect 10 Iron Ingots and 5 Tepig Hides so you can craft Leather Armor if you hold the X button for two minute, all for a +2 Defense boost

Cliff Bleszinski is making a new game and it won't feature a PvP In this extensive interview, he clarified that the failure of LawBreakers and Radical Heights at Boss Key Productions was caused by his alcoholism and ego, a defective publishing deal with Nexon, and the choice not to release LawBreakers on Xbox. After four months of sobriety, Bleszinski is experiencing a renewed desire to create video games. “I was a functioning alcoholic," he said. "Then I became a non-functioning alcoholic.” “At the end of the day, I want to create characters and worlds. I want to make stuff that people will cosplay as and get tattooed on their bodies,” Later, he mentioned the surprising locations in which he currently finds inspiration, stating, “I can't walk into a Home Depot without seeing a full arsenal at every turn. There's so much more than just chainsaws.” Due to the fact that the project is still in its early stages, Bleszinski was reluctant to discuss his future game. However, he knows one thing it won't be: it won't have PvP like almost all of the games for which he is most renowned. “Good luck to anyone in that space. I'm more of a fan of PvE these days. Horde mode saved Gears 2, and I believe that space is evergreen because players just want to hop online with friends and shoot some stuff, no frills, no questions asked.” via: Level 80 80.lv/articles/cliff…

@CocoaFox023 I can see why pokemon designs have gotten way worse over the years. The fans literally cannot tell the difference between good or bad designs. Just pokemon good, everything else bad copy. Really embarrassing.

@Mando_Riv Until Nintendo is transparent on its concurrent player numbers, there's no point trying to guess if Pokemon has a high playercount. Half of those numbers could be Pokefans buying the 2nd game and not playing it, but we don't know because Nintendo.

ZA sold 5+ million first week… you are legitimately brain dead, respectfully. And for those saying “well just because it sold that the first week doesn’t mean everyone who bought it was playing it”, even if only a fifth of that amount played it that would still be 1+ million.
RagerYT@RagerrrYT

🚨Palworld just achieved what Pokémon has not managed in years 855,525 concurrent players on Steam this Sunday Second most played game on the entire platform behind only Counter-Strike 2 Pokémon has been the biggest gaming franchise in the world for 30 years And a small indie studio from Japan just outpaced it with a survival game about creatures with guns What do you think Pokémon needs to do to compete with this?

@babylondomus I thought the same exact thing. Except its the other way around; so much hate for Palworld is exhausting. Pokemon fans don't want competition or better games or better prices. I really hope Pokemon doesn't respond so more people can start turning against it. I'm not worried thou

This idea that Pokemon needs to compete with this is kinda disingenuous when you consider they sell 5 million copies in a weekend (despite all the online hate). 800k concurrent is impressive, but it won’t last. The game barely had 50k concurrent a week before 1.0…

@TheCinesthetic Well why didn't you cast Vietnamese characters? Why not make it more clear rather than using white Americans and calling them the one thing most Americans think of our nation's independence - REBELS. Oh right because he made it up after the fact for virtue clout. What an idiot.

@JMMODE @YorchTorchGames Goonbait is really just an attractive artstyle that offends somebody. A derogatory term to shame someone who likes a type of attractiveness the accuser does not approve of. And a good chunk of normies get offended by the mildest of suggestive material. Mostly guys these days lol.

Steam is filled to the brim with goonbait games. But no one talks about any of them. Instead, people keep talking about and playing Counter Strike 2, Meccha Chameleon, Apex Legends, Portal 2 and Half-Life 2. Great games create fans. Goonbait creates tourists.

@yaboiuncledave I would care if Sony had any good games in the last 10-15 years. Much like Xbox, they've released a lot of boring movie games for the pseudo-gamer crowd. Hard to be upset when they've got nothing to hook you in to begin with.

I’m buying a ps6. Day 1 if possible. I’m sad about the end of physical media but as long as they honor game purchases and don’t take away my games. I really can’t care that much. It’s simply a advancement of technology if it isn’t abused

@DanFriedman81 I have more issues with digital games being unwantingly modified, removed, bugged, or trapped in a crappy digital marketplace. Best to enjoy media where you have more control since everything rots. Digital is short term convenience. Its better to enjoy physical in the long run.

Before streaming, I was a big DVD collector. I bought nearly a thousand movies. I thought I was building a library. And I will tell you a secret: DVDs rot. The glue that holds the layers together can become opaque so the laser doesn’t read the disc properly or it can simply degrade so the disc falls apart or it can warp or expand so the disc won’t spin properly in the drive. So, in addition to needing to keep antique hardware with delicate moving parts in working order to play these games or watch these movies, the media itself is degrading. Yeah, your purchased digital movie might get deleted from the network over rights issues at some point in the future or the service that provides it might shut down. But if you buy a BluRay and put it on a shelf for five years and then decide to watch it, there is a decent chance it won’t work. I love a beautiful Criterion movie box set or a game with cool box art and a manual as much as the next guy, but people overly romanticize physical media. The universe is governed by entropy and everything is falling apart.
Leonhart@LeonhartYT

With PlayStation ending production of physical games; it makes me sad because there's nothing better than actually seeing your collection on display to play. My PS1 collection I've been working on!

@MugenLord People don't realize how worthless most of those games are, especially sports games. Trying to sell on your own can technically get a little more money, but you got to do the time. If you don't care and just want a new console and game in the shortest time, that is the deal.
