Conservatives are on the side of hard working people. On the side of people who contribute to making our country great. On the side of people who want to get on. The Conservative party are on your side. So on May 7th, vote Conservative and get Britain working again.

22 million people save through a workplace pension scheme. That’s a lot of money for any government short of cash. Labour want the power to invest your pensions where they want – but once in office, this could be any party. @PensionsMonkey is spot on, this could lead to lower pension investment returns in pursuit of political ideology. thetimes.com/article/3ddb1b…

Remarkable @spectator piece on Starmer's mishandling of the Iran crisis by @ShippersUnbound. Foreign policy by international law is Operation Epic Fail. Not only has Starmer lost Trump; he has also lost the Gulf states. And he has somehow managed to be out of step with Carney, Merz and Macron -- even Albanese.
Tim Shipman@ShippersUnbound

EXC: The US first asked about the use of UK bases to attack Iran on February 11, SIXTEEN days before the first missiles flew. The first warship HMS Dragon will not sail until next week, by which point at least 26 days will have passed spectator.com/article/whose-…

UK electricity generation has fallen 25% from its peak in 2004. Per capita electricity consumption is a third the level of the United States. The UK has the most costly electricity in the world. Half the gas we consume comes from the Norwegian side of the North Sea basin. The residual imported LNG has 4x the carbon footprint of supplying our own. And most depressingly of all the result is a deteriorating UK Balance of Payments, a weaker pound, and a bigger hit to the cost of living. And still the useful idiots want to further constrain UK energy production through high taxes, banning new licences, and gold-plating new energy infrastructure. Their luxury beliefs are behind the awful household disposable income growth of recent years. 🤡.

SHOCKING: One in seven young Brits now not in work or education. Now way behind other developed nations. The worst rate for decades. This isn’t AI, it’s government incompetence. Under Starmer and Reeves, opportunity is shrinking, growth is flatlining and a generation is being left behind. Zero business experience. They don’t know what they’re doing. Tax more. Spend more. Borrow more. And still fewer young people in jobs. Britain deserves better.

Britain won’t get growth without taking some risks. If the government is serious about boosting the economy, it must make - and win - that argument. My column in @thetimes today👇 thetimes.com/business/econo…

Rachel Reeves continues to work her magic: Job vacancies in Britain fall to their lowest level in five years as businesses freeze graduate recruitment amid rising national insurance and other labour costs.  The number of advertised roles dropped to under 700,000 in January, down 16 per cent year on year, the first time since January 2021 that vacancies have slipped below that level, meaning numbers being hired now only marginally above pandemic-era lows.

Today marks exactly four years since Putin started his three-day push to take Kyiv. And that says a great deal about our resistance, about how Ukraine has fought all this time. Behind those words stand millions of our people, immense courage, incredibly hard work, endurance, and the long path Ukraine has been pursuing since February 24. Looking back at the beginning of the invasion and reflecting on today, we have every right to say: we have defended our independence, we have not lost our statehood; Putin has not achieved his goals. He has not broken Ukrainians; he has not won this war. We have preserved Ukraine, and we will do everything to secure peace and justice. Glory to Ukraine!

Hi @MartinSLewis, thank you. I really appreciate that, and honestly, don’t worry. I do love a feisty debate! It helps people understand what the real issues are. You and I agree on the principle: student loans have become a scam. It took me eight years to pay mine off. I made my last payment in 2011, and I remember how happy I was, and my debt was only £14,000. I can’t imagine what it’s like to be a young person with £40,000 debt today. Whatever the Coalition government brought in back in 2012, it’s clearly not working for the world of 2026. So I’d genuinely love to come on your show and debate my plan vs yours. I’m putting student loans on the political agenda because we’ve got to do more for young people. It’s just one part of our New Deal For Young People. As the opposition, Conservatives may not be able to change the law right now, certainly not without cross-party support, but we can set the agenda especially while the government seems distracted by all sorts of other things. In the meantime, I’ll keep doing my job: setting out practical solutions and showing how we can make life in this country better, especially for young people. Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Martin Lewis@MartinSLewis

Dear @KemiBadenoch, apologies for gate crashing your @GMB interview today. Student loans are so life-impacting that I wanted to ensure the key point was made - that financially, if not psychologically, the repayment threshold is a bigger issue than the interest, (as I explain here: x.com/MartinSLewis/s…) Thank you for being so courteous after the interruption - you handled it far better than I would have the other way round. I have asked my office to request a meeting, if you are available, to discuss this more calmly.

Britain’s youth unemployment rate has risen above Europe’s for the first time - over 15% - as a Bank of England official blamed minimum wage increases for pricing young people out of work. telegraph.co.uk/business/2026/…

For all of this century it’s always been easier for young folks to find work in the UK than in the EU, where youth unemployment rates were consistently higher than UK. It explains why so many young, educated, ambitious Europeans flocked to the UK to work, much to our mutual benefit. These days are over. Britain’s youth unemployment rate has risen above Europe’s for the first time: unemployment among 16 to 24-year-olds jumped to 15.3% in the three months to September, surpassing the EU’s rate of 15pc, according to the OECD. It marks the first time youth unemployment in Britain has been higher than in the bloc since records began in 2000. Labour policies — especially pushing up the minimum wage too much — are to blame. Even the Bank of England says minimum wage increases for pricing young people out of work. But raising national insurance contributions has also crippled many industries that employed young folks. Thanks Starmer-Reeves. Another fine success story.
