The 15th Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) meeting of IASST was held on November 07, 2025, under the chairmanship of Prof. Ashis K. Mukherjee, Director, IASST. Prof. Birendra Nath Bhattacharyya, the main nominee from CCSEA (Government of India), attended the meeting along with other members. IASST was commended for exemplary compliance with CCSEA norms and recognized as one of the best-managed Animal House Facilities in Northeast India, reflecting its commitment to ethical and high-quality research.

The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST) has celebrated its 47th Foundation Day with a day-long program. IASST was conceived and nurtured by the Assam Science Society in its early years and was inaugurated by Nobel Laureate Dorothy C. Hodgkin on November 3, 1979. Subsequently, it was supported by the state government as it was an autonomous R&D institute of Assam till March 2009. The institute was taken over in March 2009 by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India, as one of its autonomous R&D Institutes with a vision to emerge as a center of excellence in frontier research areas of Physical and Life Sciences with international visibility and to build human resources towards advanced scientific knowledge for societal development. The event started with the hoisting of the institute flag and the lighting of the lamp. Prof. Ashis Kumar Mukherjee, Director of IASST, extended a warm welcome to all the distinguished guests and eminent speakers. He congratulated the IASST fraternity on their support in the institute's growth and for living up to its vision. The inaugural session was graced by Prof. B. L. Ahuja, Honourable Vice Chancellor of Bodoland University, Assam, and Prof. Subhash Chandra Lakhotia, Distinguished Professor of Zoology, Banaras Hindu University, Prof. Dhanapati Deka, VC, Bhattadev University and other dignitaries. Two popular scientific lectures viz. Dr Dorothy Hodgkin and Dr C.V. Raman were delivered by Prof. Lakhotia and Prof. Ahuja and one MoU was signed bwteen IASST and Bhattadev University, Patshala, Assam to strengthen academic and research collaboration between the two institutions. Research scholars of IASST who were awarded PhD degree in the last year, as well as faculty members from IASST, were felicitated by dignitaries for being included in the world's top 2% most cited scientists' list and for being elected as fellows of the National Academy of Sciences. As part of the Government of India's program "Special Campaign 5.0 for Swachhata," the Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Guwahati, conducted a Swachhata Rally and cleaning push on 23rd October 2025 to advocate for cleanliness. Launched by the Director-IASST, Prof. Ashis Kr. Mukherjee, the Swachhata Rally began at the academic building, proceeded along the specified route, and culminated at the site where the cleaning initiative thereafter launched. Professor Mukherjee commended all participants and acknowledged their contributions to the vision of cleanliness. In conjunction with Special Campaign 5.0 for Swachh Bharat, a sanitation initiative was conducted near the Observatory and rose garden of the IASST. Registrar, Finance and account Officer, Faculty members, research scholars, and staff actively engaged in this endeavor to advance cleanliness, sustainability, and environmental stewardship. They together reaffirm their dedication to preserving a clean and sustainable campus, as each minor action towards cleanliness fosters a healthy earth.

I delivered a lecture at the Department of Chemistry and Polymer Science, Stellenbosch University, South Africa. This visit sparks a possible partnership between Stellenbosch University and the IASST, Guwahati, India. My sincerest thanks to Prof. Willem van Otterlo.

I met a traditional healer in Bloemfontein, South Africa, who has an amazing knowledge of medicinal plants. As scientists, we must respect their knowledge, & collaborate and facilitate with Indigenous groups to document, validate, and integrate their knowledge into society.

During my visit to the University of Free State in South Africa, I engaged in productive discussions with several scientists, including members of the Indian diaspora, to establish a framework for meaningful scientific collaboration between IASST, India and UFS, South Africa.

I had the privilege of visiting Prof. Hendrik Swart's laboratory, a Senior Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of the Free State, Bloemfontein, South Africa. He is a renowned expert in Solid-state Luminescent and Advanced Materials Science.

We took part in a brainstorming session focused on developing modalities for research collaboration with Dr. Glen Taylor, Senior Director of Research Development, and Mr. Werner Nel, Director of Research Innovation at the University of Free State, Bloemfontein, South Africa.

I had the pleasure of visiting FARMOVS, a renowned integrated research solutions company based at the University of Free State campus in Bloemfontein, South Africa, this morning. FARMOVS boasts an impressive track record, of over 3,000 clinical trials for clients globally.

It was a delight to engage in discussions about research collaboration and academic exchange with Prof. Motlalepula Matsabisa, Director of the Center for Indigenous Knowledge-Based Medicines and Innovation at the University of Free State, Bloemfontein, South Africa.

Prof. Ashis K. Mukherjee, the Director, IASST, inaugurated the "Maniram Dewan Incubation Complex" of BioNEST-IASST on the 79th Independence Day. The Incubation Complex would advance biotech startup healthcare, agriculture & sustainability research.
