A two-day workshop titled “Ethical Animal Handling and Best Practices in Animal Experimentation” was organized by IASST Animal House Facility (AHF) in collaboration with the BioNEST–IASST and ISVEC on March 19–20, 2026. The workshop aimed to promote ethical standards and humane practices in animal research. Dr. Asis Bala, an Associate Professor at IASST and incharge AHF, IASST, led the interactive sessions and demonstrations, emphasizing best practices in ethical animal handling. The IASST celebrated the International Day of Mathematics 2026 on 16 March 2026 at its Guwahati campus. The programme was graced by the Guest of Honour, Prof. Soumen De from the Department of Applied Mathematics, University of Calcutta. The event commenced with a formal address and inaugural speech by the Director-in-Charge, IASST, Prof. Devashis Chowdhury, who highlighted the significance of mathematics in everyday life, its societal relevance, and its crucial role in advancing science and technology. The event coordinator, Dr. Santu Das (MCS–PSD), formally introduced the Guest of Honour. Prof. De delivered an insightful lecture titled “Integral Equations and Their Applications in Wave Mechanics.” Beginning with the fundamental concepts of integral equations, he elaborated on their applications in solving real-world problems, particularly in water wave mechanics, with a focus on the role of breakwaters in protecting coastal regions. He also discussed the emerging influence of modern tools such as artificial intelligence and machine learning in addressing complex mathematical problems beyond traditional approaches. The lecture was highly engaging and interactive, with enthusiastic participation from the audience. Prof. De addressed queries with clarity and provided valuable insights for further exploration. The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, celebrated National Science Day on 28 February 2026 at its campus in Paschim Boragaon, Guwahati. On the occasion, motivational and inspirational talks were delivered by invited speakers Sri Rahul S. Chatterjee and Prof. Pranab Goswami, along with two IASST alumni, Dr. Neelam Gogoi and Dr. Arun Kumar. The institute also felicitated its former women scientists in recognition of their dedicated service and valuable contributions to scientific research. To commemorate the day, IASST organized a laboratory visit programme for students, in which 50 undergraduate and postgraduate students from nearby universities participated. A quiz competition was also conducted as part of the celebration. The theme for this year’s celebration, “Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat,” underscored the importance of scientific advancement in alignment with India’s vision of becoming a developed nation, while acknowledging the pivotal role of women researchers and innovators. At the outset, Prof. Devasish Chowdhury, Director In-Charge of IASST, along with invited guests, faculty members, research scholars, and staff, paid floral tributes at the statue of Sir C. V. Raman. In his inaugural address, Prof. Chowdhury highlighted the immense contributions of Sir C. V. Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology, Guwahati (IASST) joined the “NER-Japan International Academic and Research Consortium” on March 9, 2026 in presence of Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director, IIT Guwahati and Prof. Kazuhiro Yoshida, President, Gifu University. The LoI was signed by Prof. Devasish Chowdhury, Director-in-charge on behalf of the institute. In his remark Prof. Chowdhury opined that the unique research done at IASST on plasma nanotechnology, advanced material, traditional herbal food and beverages of NER, image processing for bio-medical application etc offers new avenues of corporation with Japan. An orientation program for the newly admitted Ph.D. research scholars of January2026 session and Postdoctoral Fellows of the academic year 2025–26 was held on 20th February,2026 at IASST. The program began with the lighting of lamp followed by inauguration of Online Guest House Booking portal by Dr. Prashant Dhakephalkar, Director (Additional Charge), IASST. In his inaugural address, Dr. Prashant Dhakephalkar, Director (Additional Charge), IASST, encouraged the students to nurture curiosity, resilience, and a passion for discovery so as to make meaningful contributions to the scientific community and shape a better future through their research. The Chief Guest Prof. Gopal Das, Dean of Academic Research, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati delivered an insightful talk on research methodology, the journey of a researcher and encourages the students to work hard to achieve the goals. He encourages the students for documentation of research results in a systematic way and wish them bright future as a researcher. Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST Guwahati) organized its Annual Sports Week 2026 from 11 to 13 February 2026. The fraternity of IASST, including research scholars, faculty, administrative personnel, security, and multi-tasking staff, wholeheartedly participated in various sports activities such as Cricket, Football, Badminton, Table Tennis, Carrom, Chess, and Athletics. The Coordinators, Dr. Santu Das and Dr. S. S. Pandey, with support from individual game coordinators, successfully completed the Program, which concluded with the prize distribution ceremony held on 13th February 2026, chaired by the Director-in-charge, Prof. Devasish Chowdhury. Along with congratulating the winners of individual sports with trophies and medals, the importance of holding such events to build teamwork and maintain adequate mental and physical well-being is emphasized. The Program ended with a vote of thanks proposed by the Registrar, Dr. Diganta Goswami, who appreciated the whole team for successfully organizing the event and congratulated the winners and participants for their enthusiastic involvement.

The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Boragaon, Guwahati, in collaboration with Assam Royal Global University, Guwahati successfully organized a Campus Bird Count programme as part of the national initiative Great Backyard Bird Count India. The event was conducted on 15 February 2026. The programme was coordinated by Parimal Das from Assam Royal Global University, Guwahati and Dr. Sachin C. Narwadiya, Scientist D at IASST. Students from both Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) courses actively participated in the bird count, demonstrating strong enthusiasm for nature conservation and ecological studies. Participants were engaged in systematic bird observation, identification of species, and documentation of avifaunal diversity within the campus.

Observance of “World Cancer Day” at IASST 4th February 2026 The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST) observed World Cancer Day on February 4, 2026, with a compelling online lecture that elevated awareness of cancer, its progression, treatment options, preventive measures, and future trajectories in cancer research. The event drew an enthusiastic turnout, attracting over 50 participants, including faculty members, research scholars, project team members, and administrative and office staff, all eager to engage in this vital discussion. The Program prominently featured an invited talk by the esteemed Dr. Rakesh Kumar Pathak, Associate Professor of Chemical Sciences at IISER, BPR in Orissa, India. Dr. Pathak shared invaluable insights, drawing on his extensive knowledge and expertise, captivating and enriching the audience throughout the session. The seamless organization of the event was overseen by Dr. Dorothy Das, whose meticulous planning ensured a smooth flow of activities. The session commenced with an introductory address by Prof. Mojibur R. Khan, Professor at the LSD department of IASST.
