This last year and a half has been very disturbing on a number of levels, mostly because people have been forced to "pick a side", at least in their minds.
1. Some are OK with what is happening and think it is justified.
2. Some see it as a great injustice and evidence of the fact that the words of our global leaders have no meaning.
I think in both those groups, there are those who have raised their voices to varying degrees and maybe some haven't done so at all. But internally, at least, I think everyone knows which side of the line they are on.
It is strange (at least to me) to hear prominent technologists, amongst many others, talk about how life is much better now than it was long ago, in terms of longevity, health, indoor plumbing, etc. yet (and I hope I'm missing something here) it does not seem like the essence of man has changed or that we have evolved to be better than those who came before us. Different, yes. Better? idk.
P.S. Killing and starving people IS wrong BTW. Thank you for raising your voice on this @paulg. Repeatedly.
