I just came across a tender invitation from the Kenya Rural Roads Authority for upgrading roads to bitumen standards. It really shocked me to see how resources were shared in the past. What do you mean all roads to be upgraded to bitumen standard were in the same region? You can accuse President Ruto of many things, but sidelining one region for development is not one of them. For the first time since independence, every part of the country is feeling included. People in Northern Kenya now feel like they truly belong, just like everyone else. The bitterness you see is mostly coming from a group that was used to special treatment. When you’ve enjoyed privilege for so long, fairness can feel like oppression.
