If you are in #Africa and have the privilege of access to education and information, you have a responsibility to make your country and your continent better. It's much bigger than you. You owe it to Africa, you owe it to all the unprivileged. #Ethiopia

Anyone can collect, for example, this dive watch was about to go into a landfill. I saved it, meet the Seiko 6309-7049 affectionately nicknamed “turtle”. My greatest return on investment got it basically for free / broken, some IPA 99% and it’s running like new. It constantly goes for 700$ on eBay)

My college experience was unsettling. However, I couldn't quite grasp exactly why. I was recently reading Black Swan, a book by Nassim Taleb, on the impact of big, unexpected events and why we struggle to anticipate them. In one of his chapters, he describes a “Platonicity Problem,” describing an overly neat theoretical construct that we tend to create in our minds, and how the real world is more complex and random than we would like to believe. As a Marketing major, the theories we learned felt too neat. Everything sounds too simplified or unnecessarily complex. The steps and processes described as “the 5 steps of this” and “the 4 Ps of that,” and the almost religious script-like attitude towards them was unsettling. Of course, all descriptions of especially social science are oversimplifications, but what was uncomfortable was the education system’s unwillingness to challenge these ideas. It felt like there was a generation of brave thinkers who dared to question and define, then there is the rest of us who have to accept every word like it’s religion. It just didn’t feel like it represented the real world.

During a run recently it dawned on me how sorely I’m going to miss my health, mobility and strength when it’s all gone. Our health is a temporary loan. There really is no greater expression of gratitude than taking care of it. And the things we express gratitude for tend to stick around a little bit longer.

@AblenaeD If that's your mother, very few children actually take over and add value to something their parents have started. Many squander it. Kudos to you. Stay strong and make sure you teach the same value to your children. Generational legacy and wealth starts somewhere.
