@yefelekebay @Nufpany E-bikes are crazy expensive everywhere else except for China. I saw prices in Germany and laughed to myself. €8,500-10,000 are the typical ranges.

However, the funds are going to mobile phone accounts with "trusted" personnel on the wheels. It's just not well thought out for institutional level use. The surcharges also add up fast.

@mapsofethiopia A west-east oil pipeline and a refinery in Addis Ababa would do too as South Sudan is looking to export oil through Djibouti.

Add having a refinery in the southwest of our border and processing oil from South Sudan and Uganda. They currently pump enough to meet our growing demand. This move will make us totally independent of the Middle East corridor for our energy and petrochemical needs

@fmariamgemechu @abbasshash As I stated, a battery now costs ~5000$ for a small EV. However, like solar panels, when you need a new battery in 12-15 years, costs will be much lower. Even if prices don't change, it's worth it to spend up to 10K$ on a battery in 10 years than deal with petrol prices.

@solassefa @abbasshash I see the benefit of electric cars, especially since our electricity rates are lower than in other countries. However, the main concern is battery degradation or damage. Isn't the cost of a replacement battery almost the same as buying a new car?

@fmariamgemechu @abbasshash It's very naive to not be able to see the true value of electric cars.

@fmariamgemechu @abbasshash A person charging at home saves 250K birr/year on fuel purchase. That's the cost of the car itself in 10 years for a small compact electric car.
