@FamedCelebrity This helped me clarify Hume v. Aquinas. I'd always thought you couldn't get ought from nature till I read Aquinas (Feser's books). Don't know how I grew up surrounded by Christianity and never heard Hume's view contested, except in a Romans verse nobody examined.

@zachmarsch @WSJ @WSJopinion This will work fine if you don't really need the degree to do the work. But I wouldn't hire someone with a 3-year degree if I needed 4-year degree performance.

Why 3 Year College Degrees Can Work “Undergraduates can complete bachelor’s degrees in three years if colleges become leaner and more mission-focused. The goal isn’t less education, it’s less waste.” Check out my piece in @WSJ @WSJopinion wsj.com/opinion/less-i…

Everyone talks about how “IQ is the single biggest predictor of success” but just FYI having a 130+ IQ only gives you about a 50/50 chance of breaking $100K salary ever in your life.

Japanese surnames actually have meanings, and you can read them like a puzzle. Tanaka 田中: 田 is rice field, 中 is middle. “Middle of the rice field.” Yamamoto 山本: 山 is mountain, 本 is base. “Foot of the mountain.” Kobayashi 小林: 小 is small, 林 is woods. “Small forest.” Ishikawa 石川: 石 is stone, 川 is river. “Stony river.” Most of them describe where the family once lived. Do surnames in your country have meanings like this?

@miles_commodore Inflation had to be crushed, so Carter bumped the interest rate way high (and Reagan apparently left it for a while). It worked!

Attendance report from the average church. Potluck. Packed. Christmas program. Standing room only. Building fund meeting. Full house. Prayer meeting. Six folding chairs. Street preaching. Nobody came. Soul-winning. Nobody signed up. Discipleship. Nobody asked. The kitchen is full. The altar is empty.

@timothyjphelan Which is Japan's bigger stumbling block: kami, or secularism? Can either be used as a starting point for explaining the Gospel, like the unknown god at Mars Hill?

If you’re a Christian, pray for Japan. Shinto’s countless kami are tied to particular places and things. Christianity’s Triune God is present and listening wherever you are. The God of the Bible will find you. The kami of Shinto wait for you to pay them a visit.

US national debt just hit $39.4 trillion. Nearly 75% of it has been accumulated since the 2008 financial crisis. We’re now paying over $1 trillion a year just to service the debt, more than we spend on national defense. Deficits are still running at $1.8–2 trillion annually, so both the principal and the interest tab keep exploding. And CBO projects interest costs will roughly double this decade. We’re going to be paying for it with higher taxes on working families and their kids, printing money that drives up the cost of living, or eventually slashing future benefits. And neither party wants to stop it.
