Rhodesian troops in the Bush War used a kind of reconaissance by fire known as "Drake shooting". Instead of waiting for the enemy to reveal themselves, troops would proactively shoot into likely hiding spots: bases of trees, rocks, thickets or anthills. The goal was to kill concealed insurgents without first needing a clear visual on them. They didn't waste ammo. Riflemen fired "double taps" or controlled semi-auto shots up to 12 inches off the ground. This targeted legs and feet or ricocheted debris upward into the enemy's face and body. If the enemy flinched, moved, or returned fire, it instantly revealed their position for accurate follow-up shots. This was a very effective counter-insurgent tactic for the terrain they were fighting in.

Turn-based strategy games probably peaked in the 90s. You had a huge variety of options: Heroes of Might and Magic, Civilization, X-Com, Colonization, Master of Magic, Master of Orion, and many more. The list felt almost endless. Maybe that was why Incubation struggled to become a commercial hit. It received great reviews, and I personally thought it was brilliant, but it sold rather poorly. It stands out for its impressive (for the time) 3D graphics, tense atmosphere, and a mix of turn-based strategy, squad management, and RPG progression. Incubation (also known as Battle Isle Phase Four) is a classic 1997 turn-based tactics game developed by Blue Byte. Set in a futuristic human colony on the planet Scay'Hallwa, the story follows an elite squad of space marines fighting to contain a catastrophic alien threat. A mysterious virus has mutated the native Scay'Ger into monsters after the protective energy shield fails, turning the colony city into a battlefield. You command a squad of up to eight marines, each with different skills, weapons, and roles. They gain experience and can level up throughout the campaign. For a game that's nearly 30 years old, it still holds up remarkably well. Just like the rest of the Battle Isle series (also by Blue Byte), I'm surprised it doesn't get mentioned more often among classic strategy fans.

$ASTS: On days of frustration, I think back to April 2024 when AST was down ~80% from IPO and the S&P was up 37% over that 4 year period. I was filled with regret and sadness that perhaps those 4 years were wasted not only in terms of $, but also my time. This was right before news of Verizon partnering with AST and locking up 2/3 of the US market. This news sent AST up +1,850% over three months to a $39 high that summer. Nowadays "big" swings of $5, $10 or $15 don't phase me. These moves are *multiples* of what our market cap was back then, which was around $700M. When I see people complaining about the daily stock price moves in the context of what this company has accomplished and the massive opportunity that lies ahead, I sit back and laugh thinking about April 2024.

Now that we have a more complete view, we wanted to provide an update on our NG-3 mission. While we are pleased with the nominal booster recovery, we clearly didn't deliver the mission our customer wanted, and our team expects. Early data suggest that on our second GS2 burn, one of the BE-3U engines didn’t produce sufficient thrust to reach our target orbit. Blue Origin is leading the anomaly investigation with FAA oversight to learn from the data and implement the improvements needed to quickly return to flight operations. We have been in steady communication with the team at AST SpaceMobile, we appreciate their partnership, and we’re looking forward to many flights together.

Any launch failure could have dampened public and political enthusiasm for space, which underpins funding for NASA, DoD, Golden Dome, etc. Also yesterday SpaceForce hinted at their big budget request which could be made public today. And finally rumors of $AMZN having interest in $GSAT just underscores the increasing importance of space. SPACE IS THE PLACE

@gusvogelnice I had a very similar prototype going for years but the fact that there's no real way to know what the other player can do because lack of momentum would always throw me off and i'd go meh. Wings of war / x-wing counter that with "g-forces" modifiers which was kinda kewl
