Still a few days left to apply for this HPAT scholarship. This support is great for those who are eligible but it’s probably time for an overhaul of the application process. €152.80 to sit HPAT, €30-€45 CAO fee & that’s before the prep courses. Not exactly accessible to all.

AccessMed are delighted to announce our HPAT scholarships for 2022/2023! The deadline is December 8th and any student in secondary school or on an access course in college who is sitting the HPAT in February can apply. We can't wait to see your applications! @MedisecIreland

As much as I hate having my loan hanging over me, I’ll always be grateful for it. Not allowing others the same chances I had is a massive mistake. We’ve always wanted to diversify medicine, instead we’re making it inaccessible to all except the richest in society.

From a non medic family I relied almost exclusively on my AIB loan to pay my fees and living expenses while studying @MedicineAtUL (still paying it off!). Medicine needs doctors from all walks of life and backgrounds. Support equal access to medical education.

I couldn’t have accessed Medicine as a Graduate without the assistance of a loan. This is a vital component of being able to study Graduate Entry Medicine. It needs to be continued.

I wouldn’t be a doctor without this loan. As much as I detest the 100k hanging over me, I’m grateful for it. Medicine needs doctors from all socioeconomic backgrounds and this facilitates that. A diverse medical workforce for a diverse population.

Particularly important to remember that a core rationale for establishment of #GraduateEntryMedicine in Ireland was to widen #access to study #medicine (Fottrell 2006 surl.li/dixma) No loan= no access
AccessMed Ireland@AccessMedIre

In May 2022, @bankofireland ceased the only available #GraduateEntryMedicine loan meaning that it is only accessible to those who can pay €17k+ fees/year. Please sign our letter to make sure GEM remains accessible for all not just those with the means. shorturl.at/kqP67

and would never have been able to apply had it not been for the loan available, even if it was onerous. Please sign the petition in the link above.

I would be very grateful if people could sign this. The graduate medicine programme was supposed to diversify medicine but with the increasing fees and lack of access to loans to cover said fees it has made it even more elitist and unobtainable, I am from a non medical family
