@DoctorsOvertime

Time is the most valuable resource we have. A lot can be achieved in a little amount when goals are clear and everyone is working towards them.

@cihalpin Never surprised, just disappointed at how quick a new minister is to not bother fixing anything and just go after the easy targets that are the overworked, burnt out, fatigued NCHDs. Knowing full well that they aspire to be consultants & aren't going to protest

Minister for Health just said on Newstalk that the health service is underutilising healthcare workers. I really don’t think the NCHDs doing 24 hour shifts, & 70+ hour weeks, feel underutilised

Look at what Monaco are doing for $2B and we still haven't got a children's hospital. As I'm no fan of jail time for white collar crime, there are plenty of people who need to be stripped of personal assets and be paying 90% tax in perpetuity youtu.be/AbsFYe2xOx8?si…

Non doc to doc friend. "ED was full on a Tuesday evening!?" Doc: "That wasn't full at all" Non doc: "What do you call Croke Pairc when someone is sitting in every seat?" Doc: "Fair point" Why are we so accepting of shite service?

@SophieMcDLaw Never a fan of public transport. Active travel though... But while it's getting safer it needs to feel more so. Places of work need better change/shower facilities and the prospect of having one's bike nicked has to be ended. We need infrastructure youtu.be/6eJa1e4y8Ig?si…

It's a hard thing to explain, the contempt I used to feel towards the health service for how it would treat doctors. To be brazenly rostered for illegal working hours, not paid correctly, left on emergency tax etc all the while knowing the system was utterly reliant on us.
Brian Higgins@DrBrianHiggins

Irish doctors over the years prioritised patient care above all else in their lives but the thanks for that has been villification by the media and contempt by the health service. This has to change before there's a permanent cultural shift with lasting consequences for patients

@health_irish That is a very sad statement. But completely understandable. Big strikes need to happen. Force the negative systemic changes and move forward as quickly as possible with the potency of a credible strike threat in the back pocket. However, until doctors are taken seriously...

Internally, I used to be a very angry person as an NCHD. Above all I was annoyed at myself for putting up with it, felt like I was weak. This whole Twitter experiment came out of it. Eventually I put myself first and the day I left medicine was the proudest day of my career.

Anyone remember when @IMO_IRL had an overwhelming ballot for strike action for these very reasons but the HSE agreed they'd do better only for nothing to change? It's just the same story time and again with a varying array of blustering excuses. @IMO_IRL should reballot.

The work Niamh has done and is doing is phenomenal. But the Sisyphean nature of it is crushing. This needs all our support if you care about those who care for us, if you care about friends and family, even basic self preservation.

There's no risk of burnout if staff are already burnt out. Risk of burnout is never taken seriously. It's like a game of Buckaroo. Ye there's a risk but that doesn't stop the next item being placed on staff.
Mark Smyth@psychpolis

The recruitment embargo is hitting hard Referrals keep coming, more than ever & with greater complexity Waiting lists grow & distress & frustration at wait lists increases Staff drained & risk of burnout This isn’t sustainable

Adding cost and inconvenience to daily life. We have enough of that already. Personally, the green bin works fine. And no it's not just this little thing. *The don't crush your cans bit is mental

When most employees do a mandatory course, their employer pays directly. When NCHDs do a mandatory course, they have to pay for it, are out of pocket to the tune of about €1k, & eventually have to claim it back through payroll. Why does the HSE have to complicate everything?
