Ocean freight bookings from China to the U.S. up 275% this week over last week. There won’t be enough ships for all this cargo. Get ready for surge pricing.

@UndrTheCosh In 92 when he was playing for City vs Villa, Villa needed a win to go top above United did he deliberately handball in the area to give the Villa a penalty? We still managed to throw away the league but always liked Keith Curle and followed his career since that day!

Short term the container lines are going to absolutely kill it as importers surge demand. Long term, container lines become riskier assets to own as freight shifts away from the oceans and onto rail and trucking.

Shippers should lock in higher contract rates now or risk paying the wrath of a roaring freight tiger

So saddened to hear that @henkpotts, one of the legendary characters of the great early years of @talkSPORT has died at a tragically young 50. Such informed and witty financial expertise .. "Keeping the wheels of the economy turning" .. Thinking of his young family .. RIP Buddy

Most people are ignorant on how supply chains work, so when something breaks they automatically assume it’s a conspiracy. It’s not. Supply chains are constantly impacted by events. It happens daily. Most don’t make the news - especially those outside of the US or Europe. Most assume that supply chains are boring and things magically show up. They don’t. They never have. It takes hundreds of millions of people to drive global supply chains. After all, 40% of the global economy is tied to logistics dependent industries. When I launched FreightWaves in 2016, it was a strange concept to so many - a real-time news and data company covering global supply chain events and disruptions. Our goal is to educate and bring awareness to the hows and whys behind these events - armed with subject matter experts and data, we hope to provide a resource that you can trust for answers, not the conspiracy theorists on X.

None football related… Tamworth Spudman has hit national attention this last few weeks. He’s put Baked Potatoes on the map.. A quick big up to the OG Spudman, my dad Ted… back in 1980 he bought one of the first Pickwick ovens and set out on his own, setting up in Sutton Coldfield Gracechurch after being given a 2 week licence to trade… This year marks 44 years of evolution, myself and my brother now do the day to day stuff as my dad is now 82 but still going strong and having an input.. It’s been a true family affair x If you are in the area come say hello…

We’re seeing a massive reset in the logistics industry right now. It’s happening with talent and performance baselines. Maersk announcing the 10,000 job cuts back in November was just the beginning. Brokerages and trucking companies saw absurd growth happen during COVID, or at least the ones who were moving CPG and healthcare products. All that demand has cooled and now companies are realizing that it’s impossible to operate at such a low margin. Investors (both private and public) are demanding changes of the businesses they invested in when things were sailing more smoothly. The companies who invest in the right technology, and the ones with employees who will actually adopt it, are going to succeed. This reset is going to be painful – I’m seeing it every day with layoff posts, #opentowork hashtags, and articles on LinkedIn and @FreightWaves. My hope is that some of these recently released employees will find an innovative way to evolve their careers to the changing needs of the market.

🚨Container shipping rates skyrocket 173% Carriers divert +$200 billion in trade from the Red Sea due to Houthi militant threats Shipping a 40-foot container from Asia to northern Europe now costs over $4,000, up +173% Supply-chain issues back... Will inflation re-accelerate? (Important to note: cost of shipping from Asia to northern Europe AND to Mediterranean cost 2x more than the levels in January 2019, but are still well below their peaks during pandemic)

Container shipping rates from China to US West Coast are finally seeing an impact from the Red Sea crisis as shipping rates on this trade lane hit a 1-year high! This comes after Mearsk suspended shipping through the Red Sea as a result of continued attacks on container ships

USS GRAVELY shoots down two anti-ship ballistic missiles while responding to Houthi attack on merchant vessel. Today at approximately 8:30 p.m. (Sanaa time), the container ship MAERSK HANGZHOU reported that they were struck by a missile while transiting the Southern Red Sea. The Singapore-flagged, Denmark-owned/operated container ship requested assistance, and the USS GRAVELY (DDG 107) and USS LABOON (DDG 58) have responded to the ship. The vessel is reportedly seaworthy and there are no reported injuries. While responding, the USS GRAVELY shot down two anti-ship ballistic missiles fired from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen toward the ships. This is the 23rd illegal attack by the Houthis on international shipping since Nov. 19.
