@IsabelOakeshott And schools were open the teachers were still going in for the children of key workers.

Striking teachers need to take a long hard look at themselves. Millions of children are still battling to catch up after they were shut out of school for the best part of two years. Don't do it again.

@IsaInvestor @IsabelOakeshott Neither would you if you hadn't had teachers to lay the foundations in the first place. Without them you are nothing and future generations are nothing. You might want to remember that.

@IsabelOakeshott It wasn't teachers that shut down the schools with that nonsense though was it? So it's fine for the kids to miss school when the government says so? Pay them properly and they won't need to strike. Inflationary rises should be law. Like before they are working from home.

@Smith47Beatrice @Parody_PM They don't deserve more at all, they dusurve exactly what they have because they voted for them. Its on them. They know exactly what they were like yet still went out and voted for them. They own this.

@Parody_PM The lack of integrity and honesty at the top beggars belief. The public of this country deserve more! The lack of trust in the Police and MPs just proves how low this country has become after years of Tory Party rule!!!!

@NIAbbot I didn't vote for brexit but with the animosity created I think it is folly to expect the UK to rejoin with open arms. Certainly we need to know the conditions of rejoining before a vote. How about joining the EU economic area and go from there

@terrychristian @SoozUK I'd agree about the second job but double no chance. At best it should be minimum wage, if you are saying to society you can live on this you should be doing first by example. But it should be a vocation you should do it because you care not or the money.

@SoozUK I remember David Bookbinder , Labour leader of Derbyshire County Council in 1980s campaigning against MPs ( back then it was mainly tories too) having second jobs. I think they should be paid at least double and be disqualified from any 2nd jobs

@MarinaPurkiss Unfortunately this is just what the tory party does. It pits people against each other and while we are all fighting they rob us blind. While we are so busy hating & blaming a few people in dinghys or those that dare fight for a fair wage they are making off with the loot.

@blackcanman @terrychristian Only we don't have thr benefit of free movement anymore. Instead of being able to live and work in 28 different countries we can now only do it in one. Oh the sweet taste of more freedom.

@terrychristian You could always move to Spain, Italy , Greece, Portugal or even Poland. Everything seems great over there in those wealthy countries & it would release you from this awful country & the terrible happy Brexit winning folk .

@terrychristian When UK joined the economic zone in 1973 did the people immediately see the benefits? Miners striking, economic outlook poor etc following 6 years of membership, the UK had 48 years of EU/EEC membership, would a timely comparison of sorts be more accurate, say every 5 or 10yrs?

@MarinaPurkiss @terrychristian To be fair it doesn't make a difference who you vote for. It's just an illusion to get you to think you have a choice. If those in power really pulled the strings when the opposition took power they would reverse everything they had opposed. But they don't. Ask yourself why?

Today is the vote in the House of Lords on voter ID… There’s been just 9 convictions of voter fraud since 2017 Yet it’s becoming law whether we like it or nor This vote is to delay it, because right now it could mean millions of people turned away Millions of non-Tory voters

@davidtenfan124 @SocialistNHS @HNLLoyd1 So what would you suggest they do instead? They have exhausted all other avenues. The strike is a last resort. If you can give them an alternative that will make government listen then I'm sure they would be all ears.

@mrjamesob My mother died from COVID. She died gasping for every breath. It was heart breaking. She passed before the first booster became available. COVID vaccines helped reduce deaths. I don't want anyones mum to go through what my mother did.

@TheNatmeister @n3fnbillgittens @paulwaugh Sorry for your loss, unfortunately that is exactly what they want. Their ideal is that we work right up to the point we drop never getting a chance to claim our pensions. Pension age should be much lower it would free up jobs for the young & pensions should be inherited on death.

@terrychristian Why are people so reluctant to just answer the question we know we have left but what are you doing now tht your couldn't do then? If we're were to once again find yourself bound by the shackles of the EU what is it that you could no longer do that you would miss the most.?

Latest poll showing there is now a 14 point lead amongst voters wishing to rejoin the EU . Leavers , if we do rejoin, as is now the democratic will of the people. What tangible benefits of brexit will you and your families miss the most ?

@peterwalker99 Can you remind me the last time 40,000- 60000 people crossed the Channel without permission, last unpermitted influx, to my knowledge was the Norman invasions where about 7000 people crossed - what should the HS call it - a jolly excursion?

Without wishing to be a bore about this subject, a serving home secretary describing asylum seekers as “an invasion of our southern coast”, and in the Commons, is really striking. It’s the sort of language that a decade or so ago would have been the preserve of the far right.

@DaveOfAltonia @hill_hilly18 @Peston Never once have I thought to myself this is an outrage if only a white English family had booked it I'd feel so much better whe a hotel's is fully booked . I just think to myself I'll have to find somewhere else. I don't get worked up about the nationality of who booked it.

Source close to Priti Patel say she was signing off hotel accommodation all through summer. “No matter how unpalatable it was she always did it because not to do so would have breeches statutory duties. We never breached statutory duties”. So the big question for Braverman…
Robert Peston@Peston

Braverman has never booked hotel rooms. Patel booked such rooms for a period but then stopped many months before resigning as home secretary. 4/20
