Bare in mind Messi stamped on Spence’s foot in the build up to their 2nd goal Far more contact that what they’ve disallowed that for

When comparing the greatest athletes in any sport, the margins are incredibly small. When you break down Messi’s finals record, his record in KO games & against big teams in major tournaments across his entire international career he falls short of someone like Pelé.

@chelsealeite Learn: Sandy used a racially insensitive phrase towards Angel Reese. Keep that crap in Australia. In U.S. never use phrases or terms like that towards Black Americans. Our history here is of torture, murder, humiliation, and pain. We were referred to as one-fifth human, property.

An emotional Sandy Brondello opened post-practice scrum today with a statement about what happened during Friday’s game against Atlanta, apologizing for what happened:

The funniest part about the “Messi is favoured” conspiracy is the idea that FIFA watched him endure four World Cup heartbreaks over 16 years, then one fine afternoon in 2022 suddenly decided, “Right, let’s start rigging it for him now.” 😂

@natfluential Not racist in America either, you’re just race baiting and perpetually offended

And how do you think that impacts what I said? This is America. An acceptable Aussie colloquial expression may not be acceptable here, which is why Sandy apologized. The incessant need to keep explaining what something means in Australia at this point is being willfully obtuse.

@JedWells23 It means that everywhere else in the world, the us and the wnba are just always looking for a way to make things racist

Yes ‘protected species’ means something different in Australian sport - but the WNBA isn’t Australian, and Angel is a player who has been subjected to plenty of racial abuse, she’s obviously going to be on high alert around it

this is a classic ‘2 things can be true’ case 1. Sandy is using a phrase common in Aussie sport that to her and other Aussies doesn’t carry racial connotations 2. Angel doesn’t have that context, and given her lived experience it makes sense for her to interpret it negatively

Toronto Tempo coach Sandy Brondello was suspended by the WNBA without pay for one game on Saturday for "an inappropriate comment she made regarding Angel Reese of the Atlanta Dream." Brondello apologized to Reese on social media Saturday. Read more: spr.ly/6011BEgbYW

🚨 New 3d angle shows that Messi did in fact step on Djed Spence foot. England were robbed, why did VAR not check??

@VillaViews_ Because we have such a strong base now, and our spine is Emi, Pau/ezri, kamara/mcginn, if a couple of those go it’s different, and the fee is insane

@jonahcelona @DanisMCFC The contact happened But some believe it’s Spence who raised his foot to Messi boot’s studs. Otherwise it was a clear foul and VAR should have intervened

even Romero was solid back then. and he showed it at that WC. their defense was so good they conceded only once in the knockouts. in 2016 they had a solid team as well, they should’ve won it if not for him & Biglia missing their pens. they were comfortably better than Chile.

@NicholasTyrone He’s incredibly good in the role created for him, with teams built around him. He doesn’t thrill like Pele, Cruyff or Socrates but it’s a vastly different game and he’s the master of it.

I have never liked Messi as a footballer. Ever. While Maradona was always playing for teams I cheered against, I had to admit he was a genius. Same with Zindane and Ronaldinho. Messi is like VAR made human as a footballer, something deeply unsatisfying.

VAR and Broadcasters conveniently never showed Messi’s stomp on Djed Spence before their second goal. Well done FIFA
