The spectacle of Keir Starmer pretending to be the leader of a global coalition securing navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, when the Royal Navy does not have a single reliable destroyer in the region, is quite something.
ITV News@itvnews

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is travelling to the Gulf to reiterate the UK's support for the newly agreed ceasefire between the US and Iran. He will hold talks with Gulf leaders on “practical efforts” to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. itv.com/news/2026-04-0… ITV News Political Editor @Peston is travelling with the PM

Park adventures with my six-year-old on a beautiful sunny day. Proof that playgrounds are still fun, no matter your age! Reminds me we are all born joyful (and maybe just a bit silly)! 🎥 Camera skills by my little one! #BigKid #BeYou

@afneil @PaulSmi82601272 Regret to say I have to agree with AN. In essence it would be really cheering to salute his efforts as PM. At the moment, like many others, I am struggling

A load of nonsense. There’s nothing riding on Keir Starmer’s awayday to the Gulf. Who’s going to tell him Iran is keeping control of the Strait of Hormuz? And there’s nothing he can do about it. Especially since he doesn’t have a Navy.

@truemagic68 @TheRealMarina0 Obama's foreign policy failures resulted from his reluctance to engage with regimes that he didn't like, including Russia, China and Israel. In politics you can't always choose your negotiating partners. Being able to do so gives you influence.

@TheRealMarina0 I think President Obama was very likeable. However, when it came to foreign policy he was a disaster. He refused to engage with Putin, when it was important that he should do so. He also took his eye off the ball when it came to keeping Iran on the bridle.

When income tax rates were 83%, the best-paid 1% contributed just 14% of all income tax. Now, the top 1% pay 29% of all income tax. If you care about outcome rather than signalling (or just bleeding the rich) today’s lower rate leads to more revenue; better results.

@truemagic68 I haven't watched the race for years. Since Cambridge became so dominant it's like watching paint dry. Well done the Oxford women though.

The Channel 4 interviewer’s first question to the winning Oxford Ladies Boa Race team? HOW DOES IT FEEL? Could there be a more banal, unimaginative and dire one, if he had tried? Oh dear!

@alexmassie When it came to ship building reliability was Scottishness until the snp got their hands on it. They've turned Clyde built into shite built like everything else they touch.

But what happens if - perish the thought! - ferries built in Scotland are less reliable than ones built elsewhere? That is: which is more important - reliability or Scottishness? Privileging Scottishness is what landed us in this mess in the first place.
Scottish Labour@ScottishLabour

Ferry cancellations have skyrocketed tenfold under the SNP - a shameful failure that’s hitting island communities hardest. A Scottish Labour government will end the ferry fiasco, restore accountability and deliver the reliable lifeline services people deserve. Scotland needs change.

Always wondered what it would look like: a first look at the proposed Trump presidential library in Miami. Needless to say, it would be the tallest, biggest and most self-referential presidential library yet.
Eric Trump@EricTrump

🚨 FIRST LOOK: The Donald J. Trump Presidential Library is officially here. Over the past six months, I have poured my heart and soul into this project with my incredible team at @Trump. This landmark on the water in Miami, Florida will stand as a lasting testament to an amazing man, an amazing developer, and the greatest President our Nation has ever known. 🇺🇸 These images have never been seen by the public — until today. Enjoy! trumplibrary.org

If only we had followed the wise example of the Norwegians and used our North Sea windfall to build a sovereign wealth fund like @NorgesBank, we wouldn't be in the mess we are in today.
Mark Dampier@MarkDampier

@iancowie We didn’t rely on Russia most comes from Norway. There is little security from both intermittent electricity, mainly based on manufacturing in China .
