In the press release Corporal Michael McLaughlin says "some electric vehicles have self-driving mode, but those systems are not legal to use in BC." This is not true. Tesla vehicles have Level 2 driver-assist software, which require driver attention at all times - this is still legal in B.C. What is illegal in B.C. is Level 3 and higher autonomous systems. As of April 5, 2024, the Motor Vehicle Act prohibits the use of Level 3, 4, and 5 self-driving vehicles on public roads, or even having a vehicle equipped with this capability, unless authorized by the province.
