@19yma19 @AdamDavis35 @nadnerb217 @Keg767 I seriously doubt too many people will be really affected by this.
English

I must say that many of the responses to this have alarmed me. The lack of comprehension by many people goes a long way to describing why our nation is in the state it is.

My wife doesn’t work. We are blessed to have some money in savings. Let’s say she puts $100K in a hi interest account at 5% at the end of the year she owes nothing in tax. However if she gets a capital gain of $5K she’s up for $1500 in tax. What an asinine policy! Ludicrous!
English

@browncharley23 @19yma19 @nadnerb217 @Keg767 Correct, and if your marginal rate was zero, you paid zero tax
English

@19yma19 @nadnerb217 @Keg767 @browncharley23 Except there wasn't a flat rate of tax on Capital Gains pre 2000. If you had no other income and your CG was $5k as per my example, you didn't pay any tax
English

@nadnerb217 @AdamDavis35 @Keg767 @browncharley23 what? They pay CGT under the previous system by working up through the tax breaks to find the marginal rates! The CG is treated as income outside your super hence is taxed as normal after 50% reduction. Under the replacement scheme, same as pre 2000, they pay min 30%
English

@Keg767 @browncharley23 2 people each have $100k. Person A deposits $100k into bank at 5% for a year. Person B buys $100k shares which they sell for $105k at end of year. Both have no other income. Person A pays no tax (same as before) but under new rules person B now pays 30% on capital gain. Crazy
English

@browncharley23 And ultimately when you liquidate that asset, it’s taxed differently to other forms of income (labour, interest, etc). Why is that? Why should it be taxed differently?
You’re so close to getting it!

@Beery19 Thought it was a weird post and my suspicions were confirmed when @justinsmithword posted the same thing

@AlbertThurgood Make sure to apply a liberal amount of lube (or whatever you used in those days, tallow maybe)

Have we played Footscray yet? Is it over? Can we peep from out of the bed sheets yet?

Excited & emotional heading to Moonee Valley this weekend, with my little bro to watch the final Cox Plate at Moonee Valley as we know it. I convinced my dad to take my brother and I to our first Cox Plate in 1991 youtube.com/watch?v=fy8bVo…

@toddthepainter You could have finished your tweet at the end of your first sentence. Your inclusion of 'Next' is deeply troubling

@philipdalidakis Can't help but think what Carlton with their midfield may have achieved if they had taken Ross instead of Voss

I had a lot of fun at #AFLSaintsSwans on the weekend celebrating the debut of #TheMoose Max Heath for @stkildafc . I'd been waiting gor three years for his debut and he didn't disappoint

@StKFootball And Collingwood could have had Dal Santo with pick 11 but took Richard Cole
English

This game turned the club around.
The infamous 1999 Waverley game tore us apart: missed the top 8; won two games in 2000, then the Blight debacle in July 2001.
This was the very first moment of hope.
Hall left…but his pick brought us Dal Santo.
Momentum had begun to turn 📈
