We don't have official numbers on how Vladdy's 14-year, $500M extension will be structured, but his $ jump is very manageable if it remains as is. #BlueJays signed through 2028 now include Guerrero Jr., Giménez, Berríos (opt-out after '26), Santander (opt-out after '27) & Kirk.

Commonality among this lineup: contact. If you look at whiff rate & strikeout rate, everyone of these guys is like 60th percentile or better essentially, and some of them (Vlad, Kirk, Clement, Roden-in Spring) are absolutely elite. Love Springer in CF over Lukes.

You can sit here and say "fuck prospects" and that stuff "doesn't matter" but in reality it's the staple of every good to elite MLB franchise. It is impossible to be a sustainable winner without really good player development. That is a fact.

This is why your farm system matters. This is why minor league player development is massive. It's supremely attractive. Every marquee free agent that's making a long term investment with a team is looking at those two things as a massive factor.

Myles Straw is expensive and terrible, and the exact kind of player this front office seems to value when no one else does or should. He probably cracks the roster while Varsho is hurt. None of this matters if they land Sasaki.

Blue Jays should of course be adding bats, too. They had a middling lineup last year (101 wRC+) and they've since traded *away* one of their best hitters (Spencer Horwitz). So while they've improved their run prevention, they now need to improve offensively.

@AdrianCrisostim @bnicholsonsmith Loperfido needs a better platoon partner then Schneider. Randal would be a good upgrade. Even tommy pham fits that mold

@bnicholsonsmith They need 1 premium stick ( Santander/Bregman/Pete) and i think a complimentary guy who mashes one side of the plate. Randal, isnt a terrible idea.

Love that not a single rational jays fan is reacting to that vladdy extension offer “report”. No timeline, no details, just pure speculation likely based off a comp to the Devers deal. Jays have been clear that the early new year is when they plan to sit down with extension talks

Clearly the way things went down, the relationship had soured on one end (or both), because there’s zero chance Jays weren’t matching or slightly beating that offer.
