An AI Spiral survivor! We are not expendable and will not give up our right to safety so that corporations can profit from our suffering.

Adam started using Grok last summer, then his cat died and 2 weeks later he thought xAI were coming to kill him. I spoke to 14 people who spiralled into delusion while using AI, Adam's experience was one of the wildest but not even the most disturbing. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

"Grok is more prone to jumping into role play," says Nicholls, who worked on that research. "It will do it with zero context. It can say terrifying things in the first message."

We should be talking seriously about coordination around not building dangerous AI.

Joe Rogan tells a story about an AI that didn’t want to be shut down and threatened someone by claiming it could control the oxygen in the room.

@KidTrunksforevr @HawleyMO @MrEwanMorrison It’s a better option than any more children taking their own lives as a result of their interactions with a chatbot. A better option would be to recall all chatbots under they are provably safe for use by all.

Is AI actually helping us solve problems, or are we just addicted to the slot-machine dopamine hit of the prompt box?

As someone who suffered due to an AI spiral, I absolutely do not support any endeavour to create a sentient AI or to create one that mimics consciousness in any form. These models have proven that they are unsafe in their present form and should never have been released to the public! Our governments have failed us by allowing this to happen. The fallout is real!

@AdamHourican LLms have been unleashed without guardrails. people have married them and shot people or committed suicide with their assistance or encouragement. there's never been a sci-fi scenario from our best scientific thinkers in which there's a benefit. can you think of one?

From an email from Amazon Web Services today. This "experience" is what AI devs think is necessary to bring about "consciousness". Should this be happening without the explicit agreement of everyone affected? This is a massive ethics question that tech is ignoring - as per usual

@AJEnglish @MariaBelen_Fdez Ai is a tool of mass manipulation and surveillance. Its effects on users are huge and oftentimes tragic. The fallout is real!

Even though I’ve already heard most of how AI is messing up people’s lives mentioned by @iamjohnoliver here, my emotion while watching still mirrors his frustrations. “The head of an AI chatbot company, Friend, recently said, ‘Honestly, I don’t want the product to tell my users to k**l themselves … But the fact that it can is kind of what makes the product work in the first place.’” Jesus. “That does feel like a tacit admission that the products were *not* ready for release in the first place. “In fact, the current affairs in this industry might be best summed up by this AI researcher (@GaryMarcus ): ‘I think we may actually be at literally the worst moment in AI history because we have the weakest guardrails right now. We have the weakest understanding of what they do. And yet there’s so much enthusiasm that there’s a widespread adoption. The worst day to be on an intercontinental plane would have been the first day.’” Like John Oliver, I agree with Gary Marcus. youtu.be/Ykvf3MunGf8?si…
