It’s so funny to watch both the AFL and NRL reckon with officiating changes designed to increase scoring and entertainment (in order to sell the game to broadcasters) that have made the game clearly less engaging.

@Sportsfreakconz Where is the money going to come from? To be on par with SA20 and BBL, teams would need salary caps of 3-4 million, which equates to 20 or so mil. The media rights for SA20 which is in a better timezone for Indian audiences are valued at 10 million US annually.

I know many people miss the sound of Richie’s voice on commentary. He’s probably still widely regarded as the best tv cricket commentator. But, if Richie remains at #1, who would you put at #2? I’m genuinely interested to see who people pick. Radio commentators need not apply!

Moving tests away from the traditional windows in favour of the BBL risks alienating the true core fans of the sport.

Todd Greenberg is on record of saying we could see changes in the Test cricket calendar in Australia to cater for a privatised BBL.
@collinsadam is spot on here about how the Australian public would react to it. We'd be fuming as we love Test cricket.

The 6 again rule has always been bad but this year might be the tipping point - you can see the tide of public opinion turning against PVL on this.
He might be publicly doubling down for now but he's going to keep copping heat if the season continues like it's started.

This is how farcical it has now become. #nrl @nrl Manufacturing the play (deliberate). 2026 is very different. There was a set restart awarded every 25 play the balls, down from one every 39 in Round 1. There has never been a round where that was below 29, and Round 6 2020 was the only other round below one every 39. For reference, not a single round in 2025 had an average number of play the balls per set restart below 40. Even 2021 was one every 39 play the balls. ⬇️

Some boards are reliant on bilaterals to make money & raise income. NZC, for example, would make more from bilaterals than ICC income & definitely more than T20 leagues.
This dynamic won't change. You take away bilaterals & NZC can't make up the shortfall anywhere.
