Meet Ulster’s young Orangemen, by Adam James Pollock (@AdamPollock) There’s a party atmosphere in Carrickfergus. Thousands of spectators line the streets to commemorate William’s ‘Royal Landing’ at the harbour town in summer 1690. Yet if this warm summer day is like many others in Carrickfergus’s history, look a little closer. There, amid the pomp of marching season, is a sight that many visitors to the town might not be expecting: countless young people dressed in orange. These youthful cohorts stand in stark contrast to their fellow bandsmen, and what many regard the Orange Order to be: a social club for old men to relive the sectarianism of yesteryear. I actually like Manchester as a metonym for greater regionalism. Every time he talks about Manchester (and then makes things happen there), he’s saying there’s more to the U.K. than Manchester. Trump wields power from Florida, NYC and DC. I think Burnham is on to something the country will appreciate.
