There is something very smart about this automated email outreach. And I am not even sure if HubSpot or Alexandrea know what it is. People look for connection, reasons to relate, context. The pitch is generic. But, Denver, CO - which may not be purpose added - engages a part of your brain that nothing else in the email would trigger. When we see a place, we may have a memory tied to it, we might imagine a map, and we put a demographic filter on the person associated with it. All these things take you away from the message, but that’s a good thing. It makes a personal connection. If you do cold email outreach, try it. Experiment with it. Your response rate will go up.

Companies are repeating an old mistake. Last time it was foolish, this time it will be fatal. Corporate America has a new favorite hire - the Chief AI Officer. Something like 26% of big companies have one. And there is a frenzy in higher ed to offer Chief AI Officer certificate programs - see Georgia Tech, Carnegie Mellon, the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, Cornell, George Mason, and the University of Miami. There’s just one problem. The position is absurd. You cannot isolate AI in a single executive suite. We’ve watched this movie before. Back then it happened in slow motion. But. Time and technology have collapsed into each other. When social media was new Companies panicked when social media became a thing. So they did what organizations do when confronted with something massive and unfamiliar - they created a title. The “Head of Social Media” was born, and suddenly one person - often a nepo baby, siloed from the rest of the marketing and communications departments - was responsible for figuring out the entire digital and social footprint for the enterprise. Companies ran parallel marketing operations - traditional over here, digital over there. It took years for business to realize that social media isn’t a separate discipline. Everyone needs to be their own Chief AI Officer Every employee has the tools to make dramatic advancements by building something with AI. There is no need for an AI figurehead. Every leader needs to ask, “How can we ensure that every employee in the organization becomes AI-curious, AI-fluent, and AI-capable?” And then do it. Those that don’t will fail.
