Another case of Autistic children being used by anti-vaxxers to spread propaganda to hurt everyone. This is why I'm politically active, we are used as pawns against our will to hurt others. I can't stand this.
Sam Hoadley-Brill@deonteleologist

6. In conclusion: we have a batshit anti-vaxxer who believes that vaccines caused autism in her son, who tragically killed himself due to lack of therapeutic support, LYING OPPORTUNISTICALLY to blame a school board for his suicide while pushing her anti-vaxx agenda. Disgusting.

Today, I'm making a bold prediction: By Aug 31, Cook will move 1/3 of their House ratings (21) left. Like in 2018, their ratings lag BADLY behind the data. And unfortunately, there's REAL consequences for this - ones that prob cost Dems a seat in 2024. open.substack.com/pub/decalibrat…

If we as a society think it's inappropriate for judges to reduce their job to that of a politician, well, then stop electing judges and create a bipartisan commission to appoint them. I think there's merit to doing it like that! But you can't have it both ways.

This is a rare case where I'm 100% on the side of conservative judges for throwing out a campaign regulation. I don't think judicial elections should even exist, but if we have them, it's absurd to ban candidates from talking about the issues voters will choose them based on.
Alessandro Marazzi Sassoon@alemzs

The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled 5-4 that restrictions on judicial candidates political speech are in fact unconstitutional. And it wasn’t a liberal court that did so.

Virginia Democrats should try again to redistrict in 2028. There's no legal concerns and new districts are still important for 2028 and 2030.

it used to be that Congressman Johnson would always get 80% of the vote in his home of Johnson County, so the map was entirely dependent on how much of Johnson County he got, regardless of how it voted in a presidential election

one thing that makes old gerrymanders especially inscrutable to modern viewers is that, in an era when home county/region effects were super strong, you often drew them to account for this as opposed to raw partisanship. They were gerrymanders crafted for one person only

Marcy Kaptur originally won the Toledo-based OH-09 in ‘82 by defeating freshman Rep Ed Weber and has held it with relative ease until Rs made significantly redder in the 2020s. The ‘82 map was drawn by the Dem legislature and signed by the GOP Gov, despite his fellow Rs bringing on a lawsuit - which was dismissed. While some viewed it as a Dem gerrymander, it was more an incumbent protection plan of sorts, though Rs did lose two seats as a result of reapportionment. Besides Kaptur, the ‘82 election featured the debuts of future Govs Jon Kasich (12) & Mike DeWine (07), all while future Rep/Sen Sherrod Brown was being elected SoS.

Today is primary day in OH, where we’ll learn who’ll challenge longtime Rep Marcy Kaptur. Kaptur was first elected in ‘82, but did you know another young whippersnapper was elected to his first statewide race that year? A fellow named Brown defeated…Brown to win the SoS race.

@jasminewsun The big problem is that we let a small minority of the population own almost all of the gains that AI creates. Give the financial benefits to most Americans directly and equitably, and most of these problems dissipate.

Most people I know in AI think the median person is screwed, and they have no idea what to do about it. I spent the last 3 months talking to dozens of researchers, economists, and policy experts about AI's impact on work; including reps from every frontier lab and several Congressional offices. Unfortunately, I was not reassured. The AI industry is raising the alarm, but can't change course. These companies' core business model relies on the disruption they are warning about: their faith in full automation only makes them go faster. Policymakers are waking up, but still paralyzed by data and debates. Econ wonks disagree on plenty, but even the limited scenario looks like a "painful transition" that will disempower millions of workers. But an "underclass" is not inevitable, but rather a societal choice — and one we can and should stop. Instead of waiting for impact, we should start planning now to support workers through AI disruption. Whether policymakers can assuage concerns about economic security may determine if we get to reap AI's gains at all. New from me for @NYTOpinion. I put a ton into researching what I think may be the biggest topic of the year, so hope you read it (gift link here!) nytimes.com/2026/04/30/opi…

Before getting in Poreda, I do want to note something I have checked. I cannot personally find a hard line difference. But the lean on CDs 1-7 is not identical on the old map and the new. I will try and get clarity here on that. Unless one of you fine people can explain that.

@cremieuxrecueil The other thing is that these side effects are much less serious than dying 20-30 earlier today heart attacks. My grandpa is the first man on my father's side to live past his 60's because of statins.

Muscular side effects, pain, weakness: they're the most common and the most overhyped statin side effects We know this because we have trials where we trick patients When they go on placebo or statins, the symptoms are similar, and when they come off, they recover just as well

What a vile man John Reid is. A man with a history of abuse allegations murders his wife and John blames the survivors who came forward. Their lives were also deeply impacted, both by the abuse itself, and by the smears they CONTINUE TO FACE TODAY. Yet they haven't killed anyone.
John Reid - The Reid Revolution@ReidRevolution

Of course this headline is just horrible… and there’s no excusing murder and the devastation I’m sure these children will feel for the rest of their lives- but this blaring fleeting headline is NOT the whole story. When I heard about this crime and tragedy this morning I couldn’t help but wonder if any of Virginia’s smug and abusive political leaders even consider that political hit jobs (with fake allegations?) can have tragic consequences that often reveal themselves many years later. I don’t just feel bad for this family and these poor children today… I feel bad about the last several years of horrors these people must have all been living. Justin called me several times last year after what was done to me to encourage me not to give up. My understanding from speaking with him privately was that he was ruined by what he swears were total lies. When I did the reporter thing and called around, his close associates said he couldn’t find or keep steady employment and that things had been pretty rough. With what little influence I had at the time I told him try to help get the FBI investigation files released on his case- because he said they would clear his name. No one was interested in helping or in exposing the truth- whatever that might actually be. The accusations did their job. He was destroyed politically and his life and family didn’t matter. Verifying the truth didn’t seem to matter to anybody either- Except to him. Even when I thought I might have a plan to get the files released it was clear (in my opinion) that he was scared and crushed that the process and inevitable renewed headlines would destroy what was left of his life and family. What a living hell. Like all of you- I do not personally know the entire story about what happened in hotel rooms decades ago. I do not personally know who suddenly released damning ALLEGATIONS about sex and abuse right as this man was being considered as Governor. And I do not personally know the pressures and situation in the Fairfax home last night. But… I can tell you the cutthroats in Virginia politics and everyone who lies or gleefully attacks others over rumors and allegations that are unlitigated and unproven should check themselves today. In candor- for decades I have talked A LOT on TV and radio and on social media. I have been very rough with many people over the years but if you have listened to me I am often the LAST person to jump to a conclusion or be condemning because I have paused to make sure I know the facts and not just the allegation. I am determined not to lie about people and I know my public words have the power to help or harm. I wish others in Virginia had paused to think about that burden when it came to the case of Justin Fairfax. And now look what has happened….. I’ll talk a little more about this on my broadcast today at 1:30pm. But it all makes me sick on many different levels.

@lyndonbajohnson From what I heard, Pat Nixon had a rule that White House staff wasn't allowed to talk to the First Family unless they were spoken to. Betty Ford thought this was so strange and got rid of this as soon as she moved in

A lot of us #NCPol watchers are so used to North Carolina races being literally paper thin. But it looks like the NCGOP, which used to be one of the best-run state Republican Parties, might be making like UNC and collapsing after a 14-point lead. #NCSen
Adam Carlson@admcrlsn

My brain is having a hard time wrapping itself around the idea of any federal statewide race in North Carolina being more than a 5-point margin in either direction. But here we are.

@archaicf0ssil Thing is, Sisko would’ve had to report to Starfleet that they made contact with the Dominion, gave them control of the Defiant and had the opportunity to cripple them permanently. I think the excursion was mostly left off books and Garak got a slap on the wrist.
