These stadium sized acts always: "I'm doing a small venue tour to bring it back to my roots" Safe fam, now none of these small venues want to let the majority of smaller acts in unless we've got corporate level money to burn on an event. Do you lot realise how fucking hard it is to just put on an event in a half decent venue without losing 6 months worth of music royalties right now? I've been quoted in excess of £1500 to hire a 350 cap venue before i've factored in the cost of paying any dj's. There's a serious lack of decent small venues with adequate sound right now. The gap between acts who can sell 150-300 tickets and the elite playing drumsheds is absolutely mental. And the buying public are more likely to spend £100 on one night at Drumsheds every 4 months than £5-£20 tickets to go out a couple of times every 4-6 weeks. These large acts don't want to play once per quarter in the big cities with events like WHP / Drumsheds so they need to promote their own small parties and tours to fill the calendar without upsetting their exclusivity deals with the mega venues. Thus pricing out anyone who is not in the top 1% of acts in the country right now. The few decent venues we have are now also very reliant on those acts and the brand deals to keep the lights on, pricing out 90% of people trying to put on parties or make a living. How do we fix this? Going out is so expensive so I see it from both sides. But I cannot see a fix right now. Something has to change.
