Urban planner, fmr policy director @housingON, fmr deputy campaign director for @voteBCUnited, views are my own, obviously.

The BC NDP had 16 incumbents lose on Saturday, this includes 5 members of cabinet and 11 other MLAs. #bcpoli

NEW: In a speech to Toronto's Empire Club Thursday, Premier Ford goes further than his minister & vows to remove bike lanes impeding city traffic. "We need to and will remove and replace existing bike lanes on primary roads that are bringing traffic in our cities to a standstill”

.@yfblanchet believes that young Canadians have "a standard of living, a level of prosperity and a level of wealth that we never could have imagined" and he believes that "those who built it deserve to be adequately compensated". #cdnpoli

NEW - @JohnRustad4BC says he will end ICBC's monopoly on basic auto insurance, opening up the province to private competitors. Also says he'll allow people with "life-altering injuries" out of the no-fault insurance system to sue for compensation -- not immediately clear if this means total elimination of no-fault insurance or not.

Here's the moment David Eby got stung by a wasp mid-news conference:

I am initiating a movement to revive a NEW LIBERAL alternative in British Columbia government and politics. We cannot afford the wrong-headed approach of the BC CONSERVATIVES manipulating our political process thanks to Falcon's betrayal of liberal oriented BC UNITED MLA's, candidates and supporters. Our province deserves better - a moderate, centerist option for voters instead of degenerating into dysfunctional polarization. #bcpoli #cdnpoli #newbcliberals #bcliberals @richardzussman @mikesmythnews @JasJohalBC @PnPCBC @VassyKapelos @VaughnPalmer

@vancolour And as highlighted by Rob, caucus funds weren’t mismanaged - it’s just no one would’ve foresaw needing to sever all staff when plans would’ve needed to be made to save months ago.

A few things about this: - I'm told the severance obligations are around $850k - The caucus has money set aside for severance, but never imagined 25 staff, so the amount is not enough - 5 of 25 employees have contracts with severance provisions, but the others don't, so this helps them - The deal passed by MLAs will see some of the $1.7m in unspent BC United constituency office budgets tapped first to cover this shortfall. - It's possible the legislature (ie: public) in the end isn't putting any additional $ into this if the other funds can cover it

It is important to mention that legislative staff (whose severances are being referred to here) are actually always paid by taxpayer dollars. This is not for party staff, who are funded primarily by individual donations. The funding is for @BCUnitedCaucus not @voteBCUnited.
