This is just neuroses and narcissism. Everyone somehow got the idea that politics should be used to regiment social and private life to create new hierarchies and enforce desirability. This was never going to work - it’s a basic adult developmental goal to become comfortable with yourself and farming that personal responsibility out to ‘politics’ in hopes of enforcing a social reality you find pleasing is a terrible idea that will only end in tears.
