BREAKING: Bombshell new study confirms that children living in poverty tend to have healthier brains and suffer from fewer mental health problems when they live in states with more robust welfare systems that offer things like Earned Income Tax Credit and Medicaid. The study from the National Institutes of Health indicates that better funding for policies aimed at lessening poverty results in massive benefits for society as a whole. Children living in poverty without access to decent welfare programs can end up with a smaller hippocampus, which in turn affects memory and learning, which can then hobble their ability to move up in the world — ensuring that their offspring are more likely to be born into poverty — as vicious a cycle as one can imagine. States with healthier welfare programs saw a 34% narrower disparity in hippocampus development between the poor and non-poor and a 48% narrower divide in mental health. The Republican refusal to fund welfare programs is a form of warfare on this nation's most vulnerable children. This is a clear cut struggle between good and evil.
