To get to the domestic terminal from the International terminal in Nigeria, you need a taxi. So I was warned to use Bolt which costs less than 10000 Naira. But the moment I walked out to get of the arrivals hall, I was greeted by a bunch of hustlers. They introduced me to the chairman 😂 He is the chairman of taxis they said. Why does everyone want to be chairman of something in Nigeria? Anyway the chairman carried my bag and took me to a taxi outside where he hustled his commission from the driver. I paid 15000 Naira ~$10. The domestic terminal needs to be demolished and a new one needs to be built. Gotta give it to Nigerians, they are friendly people.

The e-visa situation to get into Nigeria, albeit being a clever idea needs a lot of refining. But the guys that helped me a pretty nice and chilled. The International airport in Lagos is the only airport in Africa where there is a risk of TOUTING at the airport. They have big posters warning about TOUTS. The only other airport where an airport official acted like a tout I have been to was the airport in Cairo, Egypt. Story for another day.

Last time Bola Tinubu was this afraid was 2003 when Afenifere dumped him and supported Ganiyu Dawodu. Fear however doesn’t make Tinubu weak, it makes him even more desperate and we must never underestimate a desperately terrified incumbent. Will be hard, but it can be done 🤝

This same rail project was started by Jakande’s govt is the 1980s as a N600+M project, guess who disrupted & cancelled the project in 1983? Yes APC’s Buhari. Buhari went ahead to pay the contractors N100M to leave the project, let me rephrase, Buhari paid the contractors money to make sure they left the project. This is a 44yrs vision and it has nothing to do with T-Bag AKA Poseidon.

Some administrations ago, I came across an opportunity through a few of my non Nigerian associates. A major global player had one of its factories effectively sustained by recurring purchases from a Nigerian MDA. When I heard this, my immediate thought was simple: these are products we should be manufacturing in Nigeria. So I developed a plan. The idea was to secure that demand, localise production, create jobs, generate strong financial returns, and most importantly, build technical capability within Nigeria. I started with what I believed was the hardest part. I approached one of the top global competitors to the incumbent supplier and made a very direct proposal: Your competitor currently supplies Nigeria. I can redirect that opportunity to you, but on one condition: production must move to Nigeria. I will raise the capital and build the factory locally. You will come in as the technical partner, co develop the facility to your standards, and support full technology transfer. It was not an easy discussion, but after several rounds, they agreed. The numbers made sense. The annual spend was in millions of dollars, and my structure allowed them to earn that revenue without taking on the risk of building the factory. Even then, I was surprised they agreed. (I understand why they agreed now, discussion for another day). With that secured, I moved to investors. I presented a clear case: a proven buyer with recurring demand, a global technical partner already committed, reduced execution risk, and a path to long term ownership of both the factory and the underlying technology through structured transfer. The response was positive. I received the backing I needed. At that point, everything seemed aligned. Then I moved to what I thought would be the easiest step, which turned out to be the most difficult. Getting access to the leadership of the MDA took significant effort, but eventually I secured a meeting. I presented the full vision: Local production
Job creation
Lower costs through domestic manufacturing
Technology transfer
A long term pathway for Nigeria to become a producer and exporter. The room responded well. There was clear enthusiasm, or so I thought. The head of the MDA was receptive, again, so I thought. By all indications, we had alignment. All that remained was a formal commitment, even something as simple as an initial set of orders, which would have unlocked the financing and triggered execution. Nothing came. I followed up consistently, but there was no movement. Eventually, Nord gained momentum and demanded more of my time, so I redirected my focus. That administration ended without a single step forward on the project. A few years later, under new leadership, I saw a news announcement. The same MDA had signed an MOU with the original supplier to build a factory in Nigeria. I found myself both amused and frustrated. Factories are not built on announcements or goodwill. They require careful planning, strong business structure, and the right partners. Global companies do not make those decisions lightly. As expected, many years have passed since that announcement, and nothing has happened. The more practical path, in my view, is clear. It requires identifying entrepreneurs with a compelling reason to act, combining a sense of patriotism with the belief that the venture will be profitable, partnering with a global player as a technical partner, executing diligently, enabling true technology transfer, and ultimately building something that is both world class and genuinely Nigerian. That is how you build something sustainable.

I saw a post about a NAF trainer pilot we lost in a crash today (?). The post said he was flying a Pakistani made training jet. This brings me to some of the things that have been bothering me for a while. Pakistan is a poor country like us, are we also aspiring to have that…

The whole of University of Ilorin permanent site descended into riot and chaos in 2002 because Coca-Cola increased its price to N25. Students went on a rampage and Coca-Cola had to build the SUG relaxation spot. Coke and toast bread on walkway was for big boys and girls. Regular girls bought pure water, they would put a straw in the pure water sachet to look premium. In the hostel, "na baba abeg you get pure water for room" if you gave out a sachet of pure water, it was generosity at its peak. Boys would hide pure water sachet under their beds. Accommodation was N1,370 and students missed deadlines to pay. Some students would fight for accommodation slot just to resell at N3,000. That N3,000 still came with a payment plan of 6 months 😃😃. Cab fare from school to Tanke was N30 or N40. Students would stand by the road side under the hot sun begging for "lift". Fuel was N26 per litre but boys car dey empty tank consistently and that was even luxury. I remember driving to school, once I got past Sanrab na to put the gear in neutral to take me to Chapel sec school. Then climb Oke odo by Bekadims, neutral again to take me to school gate, fire till university quarters, down shift while approaching the bridge then neutral all the way. N300 fuel must last for a week. Regular Benz 230E injector wey dey drink fuel like mad.

“Yorubas and Yorubas pastors practice tribalism, nepotism and just there for their pockets” “Maturity of Yoruba have the issue of tribalism and it’s a problem, once their man is there, their culture already ties their hands makes them look submissive to an elder whether good or bad. The Yoruba culture, the lying down, all those things confines them” An Ibo man talking about people practicing tribalism and nepotism 😂 but refused to look inward. Refused to acknowledge that his forefathers did in fact practice nepotism on other ethnicities region. Thats in western region. 😂 gaslighter of a people. Narcissistic people

Standing in Bayelsa today, what I saw was more than infrastructure. The New Yenagoa City Road 1 is about access. The Angiama–Oporoma Bridge is about connection. The Bayelsa Independent Power Project is about opportunity. At every level, government must stay focused on what works for people and our administration will continue to collaborate with states serious about putting people first. When we do this, we are not just building projects. We are building confidence in our future as a people and as a nation. I must commend Governor Duoye Diri for putting the people first. Thank you, Bayelsa. Nigeria will surely succeed. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
