No, the worst-case scenario is not that the “mullah regime stays in power”. The real worst-case scenario is a low-probability, high-consequence event nobody expects until it is already underway. China using this moment to invade Taiwan. Maybe Iran already has a nuclear weapon, Israel could decide it has no choice but to use its own, and the USMC forces moving in gets trapped in the fallout. Maybe Iran has sleeper cells positioned near energy infrastructure around the world, with this week’s refinery explosions in Russia and the U.S. being only the opening move. LET ME BE CLEAR: I am not saying any of this is likely. I would put it well below a 1% chance. I am saying that true worst-case scenarios are almost never the ones everyone is already arguing about. They are the tail-risk events nobody sees coming until the cost is catastrophic.
