OK... I'm gonna follow the trend to Bluesky given that this platform feels too argumentative. Catch up with me here: bsky.app/profile/adriru…

Fascinating data analysis from the Economist looking at 7.5m US car crashes The chart below shows likelihood of you dying in a car crash by weight of your car (grey line) and weight of other car (red line) So it’s in our own self interest to get a heavier car (slight reduction in chance of our own death) but definitely not in society’s (big increase in chance other driver dies if our car gets heavier) Potential case for additional tax for cars over 4000lbs (from that point on there’s little extra safety for the driver but a lot of risk for others)

@major_rawls @ellismizen No better in France, just with the added problem of not understanding the commentators... although that's more my issue 😂

That interview from Victor is one of the highlights of the Tour so far. 'The support I have from my girlfriend is incredible. She gave birth to our son at the bottom of the climb in Granada, she is the hero in this story. 'I will be leaving the team, but I'm so happy that we can finish off with the highlight of my career. 'I have a bright future now still in cycling, I became a father and it was like blue skies, only blue skies.' Beautiful 🥹 #TDF2024

Cycling is becoming increasingly popular in London: 🚲 London's network of cycleways has quadrupled since 2016 🚲There are 1.26m cycle trips every day (ave) There's the potential for much more, so we're continuing to rolling out more cycleways & making streets safer for all.

@EmilyKerr36 Yes - this!! Real buttons that you can locate with your finger while driving *before* pressing. Screen buttons are rubbish.

If you feel you missed out #aurora there might be further opportunities in next few nights. The sun is restless as we near solar maximum seen every 11 years. Recent solar cycles have been weak compared to historical precedent, why such widespread aurora has not been seen in many years.

Update: Met Office forecasters have picked up additional earth-directed CMEs. We're forecasting Sunday night arrival for those, but when things are this CMEssy, there's huge uncertainty.

Although it won't be confirmed until after the event has reached Earth, there are signs tonight's Severe Geomagnetic Storm will be the strongest since 2005. This will mean it's likely all of the UK (cloud permitting) should be able to see the the Aurora tonight if you look north
