@platotheteddy First appearance on indictment is always in private, there is no option to enter a plea and the matter is then deferred for the evidence to be assessed. At the next appearance the crown will either ammend the indictment based on that assessment or continue unammend.

Scottish lawyers/Scots legal observers, how normal is it for hearings to be in private - particularly short procedural hearings? Is it standard? If it isn’t standard, why was Hardeep Singh Kohli afforded such privileges? Is there not a presumption for open justice?
