How come you never see the Wendy's girl out and about? Not even in the news?

PERSONAL NOTE: I set off on a wild journey 3.5 years ago after anchoring the local news across the country for 13 years—From Casper, Wyoming to Seattle, Washington—I finally ended up at the southern border… Why? Well… @BillMelugin_ told me to get down there. I told him that the people who care about the border already know about the issue and there is nothing I can actually do there to make a difference. I was wrong… I begrudgingly went down with my mom (everyone else chickened out) a few weeks after Bill shared a few sheriff’s names with me including Val Verde County Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez—Albeit I had to work for it—No law enforcement at the border at that time was very receptive to the coverage because they felt it was not going to be reported accurately. Those narratives shifted quickly around me… I would show up and someone would jump in on my behalf saying, “don’t worry, she’s one of the good guys. She’s honest and is going to share the truth.” Law enforcement began to trust me and have continued to risk their livelihood in sharing with me to this day—Something I’m eternally grateful for. Let me be clear here—Every 👏🏼 Single 👏🏼 Time that they messaged me, they were putting their pension and/or livelihood on the line. That wasn’t lost on me… That is why I work nonstop. Because they do. Because I chose to be a voice for those that don’t have one. Border Patrol agents told me early on “we are the middle men in the biggest human smuggling operation in the world…” They were ashamed of their role, they wanted something to change. That’s why I was *able to do MY job. Them. Because THEY wanted change. Not because the admin was transparent but because what THEY were experiencing every day was breaking them, the migrants and the country. While my work with law enforcement has been balancing act (that’s journalism) Being a voice for migrants seeking a better life has also been an primary part of my job—Josmar and I met years ago when I followed an Abbott bus from Del Rio to DC—He has been paying taxes for years and is working his dream job driving for Uber now. I met Kenya in the caravan I walked in with 6k migrants in 2021–She told me yesterday that she is living in Oklahoma and is having a baby boy in December. Their stories and struggles are important in these spaces too, and their hope in the nation is also not lost on me. This has been the hardest job I have ever done in my life. I have been called a xenophobe and a sympathizer every single day… I have been called disgusting, I have lost friends, I have received threats to my life and my family… But alas, it is important and clear by how border communities voted—I didn’t sway their vote, I just gave a voice to the voiceless down here and showed the rest of the country what was really happening. So, on this Thanksgiving day… I want to thank YOU for having my back in a journey that didn’t make sense at first—Thank you for sharing kindness and grace when I likely didn’t deserve it—Thank you for supporting me and encouraging me every step of the way—Thank you for caring about what I was giving my life up to show you, in real time. Thank you 🫡 But the fight is not over. I initially got into this because I was curious and didn’t understand how thousands of unaccompanied children with parents already in the U.S. were showing up alone—Something I have been trying to uncover for years, but because they are minors, that has proven to be nearly impossible—But nearly is not 100%—I am hopeful that that with @RobertKennedyJr leading HHS, @KristiNoem with DHS and @RealTomHoman as “Border Czar” we will Have some answers.
