@HowellsDan @GaryHuttSC I think I would prefer that, but in an ideal world we would all be transparent, though that doesn’t always mean it would be to our advantage. Supply and demand is going to be an issue for some roles, and the outcome of that may not be to everyone’s liking.

@AdzKerr @GaryHuttSC Out of interest, would “to be discussed at interview” be more acceptable in your opinion? Just wondered how that would fly with people!

Thanks to everyone who engaged. I can’t help but feel that 84% of people are missing out I posted this because I’ve spoken with TWO S&C coaches in professional football clubs in the last two months, who’ve been surprise by the low number of applicants applying to roles they’ve posted in recent months One was for an u18 role, the other a u21 role. The assumption is “competitive” means a club wants to get a coach on the cheap I feel our industry is being crushed by the defeatist and glass half empty approach to things not being the way people want The truth in this example is both these clubs were paying £28-30k and not looking for silly lists of essential criteria. Yes, desirable listed advanced quals, but what job doesn’t! The people hiring knew this wasn’t going to attract very experienced practitioners, but they weren’t searching for them. They were looking for people to work in the team for 3+ years. People potentially assume the worst without collecting all the facts, or at least exploring. And this brings me to my point. If a job interests you, and you see “competitive”, at least FIND out what it is, by applying. Be curious, not turned off by it. Emerging practitioners can learn so much from applying, being accepted/rejected for interview, the interview process, feedback etc, that increase your odds of getting other roles you want. What won’t get you there is assuming, and doing nothing. That doesn’t help you, or the industry. “Competitive” as a pay description won’t change, but you have the power to negotiate and walk away too. You may get pleasantly surprised. Many a time I’ve seen people move the pay goal posts becuase someone has impressed them and they want them as part of their team after an initial rejection Start seeing the opportunity in roles that advertise “competitive” I’d rather turn down a job offer I was curious about than not try at all.

Particularly for developing practitioners, has seeing “competitive salary” resulted in you NOT applying because you perceive it likely to be TOO LOW as a salary?
