Is it just me or has Bitcoin just died? If you look at a 5 year chart it’s up about 20% since it’s high in 2021. Annualized that’s about 4% a year. I can find a boring dividend stock that’s doubled this return. I thought this was supposed to save us 😀

@Jason If you want a Rolex, just order it from a reputable reseller website like Bob's Watches. No need to overcomplicate it. Otherwise, Omega or Tudor.

Never mind about the Rolex… had no idea buying one was like buying a Ferrari, where you have to beg, jump though hoops and then buy products you don’t want to get the one you do want! 😂 thought it would be fun to own, but would much prefer to just order something on a website (like a Tesla!) and be done with it. These retail and reseller channels make things far too time consuming Is there a nice watch I can just… order?
@jason@Jason

I would like to purchase this @ROLEX

I mean, are we not backing up the truck on 2.82% REAL yield on a 30-year TIPS? Baffling how this continues to be one of the most hated asset classes in advisor portfolios...

@CoreyLeander @jdcmedlock But the overall progressively of the entire system comes more from using the revenue to fund benefits that are helpful to lower income people.

@CoreyLeander @jdcmedlock There are exceptions but most countries with a VAT don't explicitly rebate it based on income (or universally, which would be similar). There are often adjustments like downrating zero rating certain goods which makes it somewhat more progressive.

The US has one of the most progressive tax codes on paper. But our tax and transfer system reduces inequality far less than countries with broader tax systems. Tax cuts can't help people who don't have an income, but a generous tax financed welfare state can.

Yes, the United States has the most progressive tax system in the world. The top 1% pay 40% of taxes, the bottom 50% pay 3% of taxes. We can make it even more progressive by zeroing out taxes on the bottom half. It’s a small amount of the total tax revenue but very meaningful to people in this group.

@DerekPederson3 @MonicaBaumann That's one fact pattern. An abusive transphobic parent or parents is another. I see merit in leaving some discretion to the particular school and/or educator.

On the flip side how would you feel if your son were struggling with gender issues and in consultation with clinical psychologists you were trying to get him to desist into a male identity and then you found out that the school had allowed him to socially transition behind your back? We’re talking about very young kids here—elementary and middle school.

Only 8 Democrats voted to block public schools from changing a child's official gender identity unless they have the parents' consent? The idea that parents don't need to be involved in such decisions is crazy!

@CoreyLeander @jdcmedlock Taxing consumption is, all else being equal, less progressive than taxing income (though you can adjust for that in making other policy decision)

@jdcmedlock That's because European countries tax consumption more, which is what actually matters for inequality. Also, what inequality are you measuring? Income inequality? Wealth inequality? Wealth inequality is next to meaningless I would argue!

@ItJustSays314 @anymanfitness Probably true in terms of data collection and trying to get you to go there more, but the fact remains you can get lower prices every day with the app. You don't need to collect points. For example, $5 meal deal everyday: McDouble or chicken sandwich, fries, small coke.

A few theories: We decided they should make $15 an hour. Or Our gov started printing $$$ like we’re playing Monopoly.
yellow sharpie@yellowsharpie37

@anymanfitness I think the bigger question is why do places like McDonald’s and chipotle cost 30 dollars for a lunch. We don’t care if you can afford it or you want it or whatever nonsense people are arguing over. How did we get here?

Chipotle burritos cost $17 because the market supports $17 burritos If everyone said, I'm not paying $17 for a burrito, fuck that, Chipotle burritos wouldn't cost $17. Chipotle burritos cost me $0.00. Do you know why? I choose not to purchase them. Is this clocking at all?

The facts: -Bezos paid $0 fed'l income tax in 2007 -He paid $0 in '11 -Btn '14-19, his wealth grew by $99 BILLION and he paid $973 million in taxes. Sounds like a lot but it's 0.98% of his wealth growth (which is his true income).

"People sometimes say that I don't pay taxes. It's not true. I paid billions of dollars in taxes," says @JeffBezos. "That's not going to solve the problem. You could double the taxes I pay and it's not going to help that teacher in Queens."

@IMAO_ That's true for essentially everyone. The benefit you get from a police officer or nurse is far more than you get from their tax contributions.

@SteveOnSpeed It's not un-American. America has had property taxes, which are taxes on wealth, for its entire history. It's the income tax that is a relatively new thing (though not really that new, of course).
