There’s an In-N-Out burger place right on the approach end of 24R. Best plane-spotting site in the nation. When I was flying for Delta, I’d occasionally stop on my way home for Double Double Animal Style and to watch the jets!

Jet turbine manufacturers would kill for that level of efficiency boost. (The single crystal blades by themselves only buy like a 0.5 percentage point gain, like 34.5-35%). I honestly think aerodynamic efficiency still has a lot of headroom for improvement.

In 2000, Aviation Partners Inc. tested massive 14ft 6in blended winglets on a Boeing 747-200F powered by Pratt & Whitney JT9D-70A engines, delivering an impressive 6–7% fuel burn reduction. The concept worked, but high installation costs and major structural wing modifications meant it never made it into commercial service.

SPACEX: Today I visited Pecan Island in Louisiana's Vermilion Parish, the 136k acre site SpaceX is considering for their next spaceport. I flew the drone and I am putting together a video. There is a Subscriber thread attached of the 68 photos from around the Vermilion Corp Dock, the Freshwater Bayou outlet to the Gulf, the Army Corp of Engineers Freshwater Lock, the surrounding marsh, and much more!

Not exactly. SpaceX requires that there be no annoying “portal” to use Starlink. Starlink WiFi must just work effortlessly every time, as though you were at home. Delta wanted to make it painful, difficult and expensive for their customers. Hard to see how that is a winning strategy.

Delta rejected adopting SpaceX's @Starlink on its fleet because it wanted to provide internet connectivity to passengers via the Delta Sync portal, instead of the Starlink-branded portal. Delta has since chosen to partner with Amazon's LEO. This will result in Delta falling behind many of its competitors in offering high-speed WiFi onboard, as many other carriers are already offering or installing Starlink, whereas Amazon's LEO airplane WiFi for Delta is still a couple year away (or more). Satellites currently in orbit: • SpaceX's Starlink: 10,400 • Amazon's LEO: 300 (Delta rejection info according to Ron Baron)

Boeing's 109 "unidentified" April orders—28 777X, 29 787, 52 737 MAX—look suspiciously like a China deal. The tell: 103 booked April 24, @Boeing CEO traveling with Trump to China this week, and Ortberg's tease of "a big number."
