Increasing dietary cholesterol increases levels of serum cholesterol. We know this thanks to controlled feeding experiments. These experiments also show us that baseline diet moderates effects of added cholesterol.

This affects not just my research—focused on understanding cardiovascular complications that impact millions of Americans—but also the entire scientific community. If these delays continue, critical discoveries will be stalled, researchers will struggle to sustain their labs, and medical progress will slow. The ongoing courtroom battles over NIH’s indirect costs and the uncertainty surrounding research budgets only add to this crisis. Science and public health should not be collateral damage in political conflicts.
