This is a straw man because I never said the Greeks had no steppe ancestry, and I never said Proto-Greek wasn't steppe in origin, so dragging in Carthage or the Indian Aryan debate has nothing to do with what I actually wrote. What you usually argue is that the ancient Greeks ran a caste system like India, with a high-steppe elite sitting on top of a non-steppe peasantry. The Greeks didn't have a caste structure outside places like Sparta, and even there we now know the ceiling, because the Proto-Dorians from Epirus, the population the Spartan elite and all Dorians are supposed to descend from, come out at around 23.6% steppe ancestry, which is the same range as modern Cretans, one of the most southern Greek populations today. So a northern ruling caste can't have been more steppe than that, since the source population they're supposed to come from was only 23% steppe. What in my post are you really disagreeing with, and are you denying that the Proto-Doric samples had the same steppe percentage as modern Cretans? And since you made arguments about Mycenae, we have actual DNA from Tiryns itself, which was one of the major Mycenaean palatial centers in the Argolid alongside Mycenae, so this isn't some peripheral site you can dismiss. The Tiryns samples score the highest Bronze Age Anatolian ancestry of any Mycenaean region at around 64%, while their proto-Greek-related Logkas component, which is the steppe-rich one, sits at only around 20%, which is the opposite of what your theory would predict. The likely explanation is that the Argolid had been a major Bronze Age Anatolian-derived center for centuries before the Greek-speakers ever moved into southern Greece, going back at least to Early Helladic II at sites like Lerna, where the House of Tiles is often interpreted as a proto-palace, so by the time the Mycenaean polities emerged the local population was already deeply Anatolian in profile. Because the region was so developed, it was probably much more densely populated than peripheral parts of Greece, which meant the incoming proto-Greek input got diluted into a much bigger existing population, which is why the Argolid stayed the seat of power and the people running the most prestigious Mycenaean place ended up with less steppe ancestry than people in the periphery. Another point is that the samples likely to be proto-Greek come out genetically closest to modern Thessalians, and after that are very close to southern Greeks and to northern and central Italians, so even if you assume there was some "pure" proto-Greek elite, that elite couldn't have been any more northern than this, which still keeps them modern Greek like. Not Nordic at all. Finally, almost none of my post depended on the Lazaridis quote anyway. I used my own models to make the argument. I included the quote from Lazarides/Reich so no one could complain I hadn't cited a paper, but the line "Mycenaean period elites in Greece did not differ from the general population" still stands, and you haven't actually engaged with it.
