Today, Tuesday (26th of May,2026) is game free day here in Kigali, Rwanda for the @theBAL season 6 playoffs. As at last night, four teams have punched their ticket to the Semi Finals which starts tomorrow and they are Ah Ahly (Libya), RSSB Tigers (Rwanda), Ah Ahly Sc (Egypt) and Petro Luanda (Angola).
However, the road to this point has been absolute chaos, with heavy-hitting context and historical milestones falling with every single game. The Final 8 format over the weekend tested aggregate scores, nerve and stamina, here is how your top four booked their tickets:
AL AHLY LY (LIBYA)
Reached the semis after a dominant 98–80 second-leg victory over Tunisia's Club Africain yesterday, pulling away heavily in a dominant 23:13 third quarter.
RSSB TIGERS (RWANDA)
The home crowd favorites survived a heart-stopping, literal one-point thriller. Even though they narrowly lost their second leg 99:98 to Morocco's FUS Rabat, their massive aggregate cushion from the first leg carried them through. (Note: The Tigers are representing Rwanda after taking the spot of APR, who exited the tournament following organizational shifts early in the year).
AL AHLY SC (EGYPT)
The Cairo powerhouse had to mount a fierce comeback, successfully overturning a first-leg aggregate deficit by overpowering Senegal’s ASC Ville de Dakar 87:76.
PETRO DE LUANDA (ANGOLA)
The defending 2024 BAL Champions are making their sixth consecutive Semifinals appearance. They locked it in late last night with a ruthless second-half transition and defensive blitz against Tanzania’s Dar City.
The action resumes tomorrow night at BK Arena under a single-elimination format, leading straight to the grand BAL Finals on Sunday, May 31. Any tactical adjustments from the rest day will determine who takes home the ultimate continental crown.

GAME REVIEW | @theBAL 2026 — PLAYOFFS
VENUE: BK ARENA, KIGALI, RWANDA| April 25, 2026.
This review analyzes the second keenly contested Basketball Africa League (BAL) quarterfinal
game yesterday, featuring continental powerhouse Petro de Luanda (Angola) and the tournament's ultimate dark horse Dar City (Tanzania).
Facing an 8-point aggregate deficit after their first-leg loss, Petro de Luanda responded with an 83:69 win to take the series 165:157 on aggregate and reach a sixth straight BAL semifinal. Petro’s depth, defensive pressure, and late interior dominance eventually wore down Dar City despite a strong effort from their starters.
Q1: Defensive Urgency (Petro 22:18 Dar City)
Petro de Luanda came out aggressive, using a hard-hedging pick-and-roll defense to limit David Michineau as they looked to overturn an 8-point deficit. Despite early isolation buckets from Daniel Utomi, Petro’s transition offense helped them build an early 4-point lead.
Q2: Depth and Fatigue Squeeze the Margin (Petro 21:15 Dar City)
The second quarter exposed the difference in depth, as Petro de Luanda maintained defensive pressure with fresh rotations and a token full-court press. Fatigue slowed Dar City, forcing tough perimeter shots, while Petro dominated in transition and on the boards to take a 43:33 halftime lead and swing the aggregate score in their favor.
3Q: Dar City’s Resilient Counter-Punch (Petro 17:21 Dar City)
After halftime, Dar City slowed the pace and ran their offense through Anas Mahmoud in the high post. Strong interior defense and rebounding fueled a strong quarter run, cutting Petro’s lead to 60:54 and keeping Dar City’s semifinal hopes alive.
4Q: Cruise Control (Petro 23 :15 Dar City)
With the game on the line, Petro de Luanda relied on their championship experience, attacking the rim and forcing turnovers with disciplined defense. A dominant 23:15 fourth quarter pushed the margin to 14 points and sealed their aggregate victory.
STRATEGIC STAT PERFORMERS
Chasson Randle (Petro de Luanda)- 20pts, 4rebs, 3asts, 3stls...The offensive engine for Luanda, providing perimeter spacing and reliable scoring while remaining disruptive on defense.
Yanick Moreira (Petro de Luanda)- 16pts, 5rebs, 7/14 FG...Anchored the interior, providing efficient high-percentage finishing inside the paint and generating crucial second-chance opportunities.
Kacuol Dut Jok (Petro de Luanda)- 15pts, | 2rebs, 1ast, 1stl, 5/9 3PT...Jok played the perfect "3-and-D" role off the bench, stretching Dar City’s defense thin by shooting a scorching 55.6% from deep.
Nisre Zouzoua (DAR CITY)- 21pts, 4ast, 2rebs, 1blck, 9/11 FT...Carried an immense offensive burden. While he struggled a bit from the field (5/13 overall), his ability to attack the rim and get to the free-throw line kept Dar City competitive.
Uzodinma Daniel Utomi (DAR CITY)- 20pts, 7tebs, 3/5 3PT, 5/7 FT...He was Dar City's most efficient scoring threat. He provided excellent two-way value, leading his team in rebounding while maintaining accurate shooting from the perimeter.
Michael Foster (DAR CITY)- 11pts, 9rebs..Michael cought hard in the trenches against Luanda's bigs, falling just short of a double-double, although ball-handling errors plagued his night.
HONOURABLE MENTION
Childe Dundao (Petro de Luanda)- 7pts, 11asts, 2rebs, 2stls...Standard elite point-guard performance. Controlled the entire tempo of the game and single-handedly out-assisted the entire opposing team.

The reward for hard work is often more work.
Every level you reach creates a new demand, a new responsibility, and a new challenge to conquer. Success doesn’t reduce the workload; it increases the expectations. That’s why consistency cannot depend on motivation alone. It has to become a habit.
Real growth is built in the quiet moments, the early mornings, the late nights, the unseen preparation, and the discipline to keep showing up even when nobody is watching. Talent may open the door, but consistency is what keeps you in the room.
People celebrate results, but results are usually the product of repeated effort over time. The individuals who separate themselves from the crowd are not always the most gifted; they are often the ones who stayed committed long after others stopped.
Consistency creates momentum. Momentum creates confidence. Confidence creates excellence.
So keep working. Keep learning. Keep improving. Because the higher you go, the more work comes with it and that is a privilege earned through dedication.

GAME REVIEW | @theBAL — PLAYOFFS
VENUE: BK ARENA, KIGALI, RWANDA| April 26, 2026.
This review analyzes the highly anticipated Basketball Africa League (BAL) quarterfinal match between Al Ahly Ly (Libya - AAL) and Club Africain (Tunisia - CLA).
Building on a thin 1-point lead from their first leg matchup (88:87) early last week, Al Ahly put on a clinical performance to defeat Club Africain 98:80, securing a dominant 186–167 aggregate victory and punching their ticket to the BAL Semifinals.
From an analytical standpoint, this game was won on composure and structural adjustments. Al Ahly Ly entered with the structural objective of expanding their 1-point aggregate advantage early, while Club Africain aimed to turn the tables using a hard nosed defensive scheme.
Q1: Fast Start (AAL 30:20 CLA)
Al Ahly Ly came out aggressively, using structured pick-and-roll actions and transition play to exploit Club Africain’s defense early. Donovan Kennedy Williams and Machar Deng Major combined for 14 early points as Al Ahly quickly opened a double-digit lead.
Q2: Club Africain Responds (AAL 20:24 CLA)
Club Africain slowed the pace and attacked through the post, with Makhtar Gueye leading the charge inside. Improved ball movement and reduced turnovers helped the Tunisian side cut the deficit to 50:44 at halftime.
Q3: Defensive Takeover (AAL 23:13 CLA)
This was the decisive stretch of the game. Al Ahly Ly tightened defensively with aggressive switching, disrupting Club Africain’s rhythm and forcing difficult shots. Their transition efficiency on the other end pushed the lead to 73:57.
Q4: Professional Finish (AAL 25:23 CLA)
Club Africain attempted a late full court press in search of a comeback, but Al Ahly Ly stayed composed. Edward Charles Mbere and Williams controlled the tempo, broke the pressure effectively, and managed the clock to secure the convincing 18-point victory.
STRATEGIC STATS PERFORMANCES
Donovan Kennedy Williams (Al Ahly Ly)- 27pts, 7ast, 4rebs, 2stls...Williams was vital in dictating the flow of the game. He served as the primary valve against Club Africain's press, showing elite court vision to collapse the defense before finding open shooters on the weak side or converting inside.
Machar Deng Major (Al Ahly Ly)- 19pts, 11tebs, 3blks, 63.6%FG....He provided the interior presence necessary to weather Club Africain's second-quarter push. His ability to alter shots, contest without fouling, and crash the glass limited Club Africain’s second-chance opportunities, which effectively broke the back of the Tunisian team's offense in the third quarter.
Makhtar Gueye (Club Africain)- 22pt, 8rebs, 2blcks, 8/11 FT....Gueye was an offensive engine for Club Africain. When their perimeter shooting failed to yield results, his post-up efficiency kept them within striking distance during the first half. Ultimately, a lack of complementary perimeter scoring allowed Al Ahly Ly to aggressively double-team him down the stretch.
