The first round of the FIBA AfroBasket Qualifiers didn't just determine which teams advanced; it also highlighted the individuals who consistently stepped up for their countries. For the first time, FIBA Africa introduced First Round Individual Awards to recognize the competition's standout performers, with eligibility limited to players who featured in at least four of their nation's six qualifying games. 🇸🇳 Senegal's Brancou Badio (MVP) was undoubtedly one of the biggest stars of the qualifiers. The 27yr old guard was at the heart of Senegal's impressive 5-1 campaign, averaging 20.2ppg 7.0rpg, 5.6apg and an outstanding 23.8 efficiency rating. His defining moment came against Côte d'Ivoire in the return fixture, where he erupted for 23pts on efficient shooting, adding 6ast and 9rebs to lead Senegal to an emphatic 85-72 victory. 🇲🇱 For Mali, Siriman Kanoute once again reminded everyone why he has long been regarded as one of Africa's brightest young talents. The former U16 and U18 AfroBasket MVP averaged 19.2ppg, 9.2apg and 2.3spg, finishing with an efficiency rating of 22. His tournament defining performance came against Angola, where he dished out a record breaking 15ast in Mali's dramatic 80-79 win. 🇦🇴 Reigning AfroBasket MVP Childe Dundao continued to lead by example for Angola. He topped his team in scoring 17.8ppg, 7.8apg, 3.8spg and EFF18, proving once again why he remains one of the continent's most influential guards. 🇨🇮 Côte d'Ivoire's Assemian Moulare also earned recognition after another impressive qualifying campaign. At just 23yrs of age, the dynamic point guard averaged 16ppg and 6.3apg, while posting an efficiency rating of 18.7. His relentless energy on both ends of the floor played a significant role in the Elephants finishing the first round with a 5-1 record. 🇨🇲 Cameroon's Jeremiah Hill was once again the engine behind his team's performances. The experienced playmaker averaged 15ppg, 5.8apg, and 2.3spg, with his best outing coming in a hard fought victory over South Sudan, where he scored 22pts to inspire Cameroon to a 78-74 win. 🇲🇬 Although Madagascar failed to register a victory, young guard Mathias M'Madi left a lasting impression and deservedly claimed the Rising Star award. The 21yr old consistently showcased his talent throughout the qualifiers, highlighted by a brilliant 22points, 6rebs, 6assists performance against Côte d'Ivoire in the highest scoring game of the campaign. As the qualifiers move into the next phase, these inaugural awards not only celebrate individual excellence but also underline the growing depth of basketball talent across Africa. #FIBA #FIBAAFRICA

@Afiemo_ @bkarenarw Next project should be Fiba world cup in September 💪

Around this time last year, I was moving from state to state across Nigeria, chasing basketball stories and opportunities. Barely a year later, my international passport is starting to get confused by the number of stamps going into it. Did it happen overnight? Hell no. It was built through the long nights, countless hours of research, endless drafts, YouTube videos, strategy sessions, networking, disappointments, setbacks, going broke, falling sick, a few bouts of depression here and there... yet still showing up every single time because I knew there was no such thing as luck. Over the years, I've intentionally built my sports media brand without kissing ass, standing on business, remaining fair and addressing difficult conversations around the hardwood game we all love. Some people don't like my opinions and that's perfectly fine. Some think I have too much guts. 🤣 Others call it pride. 😅 Whatever you've heard about me... chances are you are very correct. But being afraid to confront reality has never been part of my DNA. Everyone is born with the opportunity to pursue greatness. The difference is that only a few are willing to pay the price. I'm not your regular basketball media guy. I'm just getting started. Video: @theBAL - Rabat, Morocco/Kigali, Rwanda

“You smell good” a top tier compliment ☺️
