In my latest article, I ask how African countries should respond to the CSDDD and its amendments. I argue that African countries cannot rely on any external intervention, whether from the EU or international law, to save them from corporate abuses and economic exploitation.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission rejects any recognition of Somaliland and reaffirms the African Union’s unwavering commitment to the unity and sovereignty of #Somalia. The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has taken note, with deep concern, of recent developments relating to Somaliland. In this regard, the Chairperson of the Commission unequivocally reaffirms the longstanding and consistent position of the African Union, grounded in the principles enshrined in the Constitutive Act of the African Union, in particular the respect for the intangibility of borders inherited at independence, as affirmed by the 1964 decision of the Organization of African Unity. The Chairperson of the Commission @ymahmoudali firmly rejects any initiative or action aimed at recognizing Somaliland as an independent entity, recalling that Somaliland remains an integral part of the Federal Republic of Somalia. Any attempt to undermine the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia runs counter to the fundamental principles of the African Union and risks setting a dangerous precedent with far-reaching implications for peace and stability across the continent. The Chairperson of the Commission reiterates the African Union’s unwavering commitment to the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia, as well as its full support for the efforts of the Somali authorities to consolidate peace, strengthen State institutions, and advance inclusive governance. Nigeria stands firmly as a democracy governed by constitutional guarantees of religious liberty. Since 2023, our administration has maintained an open and active engagement with Christian and Muslim leaders alike and continues to address security challenges which affect citizens across faiths and regions. The characterisation of Nigeria as religiously intolerant does not reflect our national reality, nor does it take into consideration the consistent and sincere efforts of the government to safeguard freedom of religion and beliefs for all Nigerians. Religious freedom and tolerance have been a core tenet of our collective identity and shall always remain so. Nigeria opposes religious persecution and does not encourage it. Nigeria is a country with constitutional guarantees to protect citizens of all faiths. Our administration is committed to working with the United States government and the international community to deepen understanding and cooperation on protection of communities of all faiths. 📚📓📖📙📘Book Review Symposium II: The African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement: Legal and Policy Frameworks (Routledge, 2024) “Although other textbooks have been written about the AfCFTA, Ajibo painstakingly adds some twists to this text as he examines the AfCFTA Agreement together with its protocols, such as the Protocols on Trade in Services, Trade in Goods, Investment, Intellectual Property, Rules on Dispute Settlement, and Competition Policy.” - Ikechukwu P. 🆕 BLOG: “Rethinking How International Law is Taught in Universities” by Jane Ezerigwe “In the context of developing cohesive methodologies for this discipline, "Third World" scholars have made great efforts to refine and implement a more inclusive framework. This Insight presents some progress achieved while highlighting the challenges encountered in different areas of international law across regions like Asia, Latin America, and Africa, where scholars have embraced TWAIL to reframe and advance the teaching of international law.” afronomicslaw.org/category/analy…

📚📓Book Review IV of The African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement: “This review builds on Kufour’s important insights by reflecting on sub-national governments' and cities’ historical and contemporary roles in Africa’s integration processes. It argues that, despite their exclusion from the formal AfCFTA framework, these actors have long contributed to regionalism through informal and locally driven initiatives. The analysis that follows highlights the need to recognise and engage these contributions more systematically as part of Africa’s evolving integration architecture.” - @OhioOmiunu afronomicslaw.org/category/analy…

🆕 BLOG on the Inter-American Court’s AO: “This Advisory Opinion represents a legal milestone in the consolidation of state obligations to address climate emergency while respecting their human rights obligations. The Court divided its analysis into three fundamental pillars: the substantive rights affected by climate change, the procedural rights essential to combat it, and the differentiated impacts that affect people and groups in situations of vulnerability.  The purpose of this post is to assess the main environmental breakthroughs of this Advisory Opinion as well as the business & human rights assessment the Court does on this matter.” - @Sherencia77 & Danielle Anne Pamplona. afronomicslaw.org/category/analy…
