@FilmmakerJulie @aliciakeys My problem is definitely related: there’s now half a billion tech devices triggered by my name, with their frustrated owners constantly screaming my name (see the other comments), and my own family members can’t speak about me normally because it will make their devices go off.

No one from the HOA in question is named. Plus, the neighbor who reported the kid playing on the bicycle was a man, not a woman.

@morningmoot_ @Mirthquakes_ What do Plain Jane, Negative Nancy, Average Joe and every other example you give all have that Karen does not? A modifier in front, without which they can return to being names and not slurs. Karen stands alone, literally and figuratively, as a pejorative; it’s on another level.

@baz_mum Some time ago, I did a Facebook post about the harm this causes, and not long after, I saw that one of my friends who’d “liked” my post was misusing the name in one of his own posts. I was baffled, all the more so when I discovered that his mother’s name is Karen.

Another thread which is made up for clicks, referring to speak to the manager, soon along come the "Karen" jibes. Ugh. Blocked a few more people though and cleansed my timeline. :)

@Scorpgal2024 @KarenCraneofCA “Alexa” is actually *half a billion* tech products … that will go off when anyone addresses or mentions a person with that name (or similar) near them. It’s also the name at which millions of people worldwide yell commands. As @KarenCraneofCA said, we’ll get further as allies.

@KarenCraneofCA I didn't even know Alexa was a real name, let alone anyone being bullied. I could see how it could result in teasing, but it's not full of the hate, racism & misogyny that the Karen thing is. Alexa is a tech product, not a white lady who calls the cops on black men.

Want to make sure people see this. Women named Karen -- many of you know, but some don't: the way people bully girls named Alexa is eerily similar to the treatment aimed at us. If all of us with abused names stick together, we'll be more effective than if we're siloed by name.
