@TheMrWilhauk This will be like the Brexit vote - full of bullshit claims (keep Canadian citizenship, economic Nirvana, no more taxes) by the separatists.

Was in a heated discussion about the Alberta Independence movement on Friday night in Camrose. My thoughts are simple, I am not for it, BUT I am not against it either. What I want is the information, documentation and all the facts before I am asked to cast an informed vote in a referendum. Been told by legit sources that while needing 170,000 signatures to force a referendum by the deadline, it is believed there will be around 1 million signatures…. So be expected to go to the polls…. I was in Camrose working a casino for the Food Bank Friday night and across the street is the Camrose CRE building. They were having a signing that night and I have never seen a bigger lineup…. If you believe it’s just a select few creating a little noise about getting an independent Alberta, you are fooling yourself. The vote is going to happen…. #AlbertaIndependence #AlbertaSovereignty #AlbertaGovernment

@Garnet_2203 Pierre fans don’t understand this is a big issue that will not go away. Instead they call people stupid who are asking for it. Not how you win elections.

@JeffreyRWRath @jayblades5 @grok who owns the Norwegian oil industry and how does it feed their wealth fund. Contrast it to Alberta. Who owns the Alberta oil industry and how much does the province profit from it?

Only because Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes steal so much of our money that we haven’t been able to build up a 2 Trillion dollar rainy day fund like Norway. As to my weight, I note you are too cowardly to post your own photo… I guess I’ll just have to look up the word “incel” in the dictionary to see what you look like! 😎

@PrairieVeteran @Averyflash @FixitCanada Must be really hard for PP fans to understand why he is so disliked by the broader public. Here is one factor - he is responsible for the nastiness that has become Canadian politics. He could have denounced the first F$&@ Trudeau flag he saw. He didn’t. This is on him.

In 20 yrs he has been an MP, he has learned the backdoors to operating in Parliament. He has learned the ins and outs of who is who. He's made connections. He's made friends on all party's. He's had 20 yrs to to see first hand who is corrupt and who isn't. You do not spend 20 years in a job and not grow. If you think that wrong, you're a fucking idiot and quite simply, just a hater who loves to hate.

Pierre was never gifted a trust fund. Pierre was never born into money. Pierre worked hard to get where he is. If you think he hasn't accomplished anything in 20 years, ask yourself this, "Where is Justin?" "Where is Jagmeet?" "Why did he get record number votes in the last election?" "Why does he connect with the blue collar worker when the Liberals do not?" "Why does he STILL have 87% of the support of Conservatives?" "What will he do first when he wins the next election?"

@sarobertsonca By that same argument Canada could cripple an independent Alberta by letting all rating agencies know of the multiple ways in which Canada would make things difficult for Alberta. Welcome to 15% mortgages Alberta…….

Thrilled to report that this stunning mural in the children's wing at my church (KidZone) has been lovingly RESTORED after some leftist agitators threw red paint on it. Our precious little ones are going to be so BLESSED to see this again in all its glory each Sunday!!🙏🇺🇸

Remember when we learned that our wealthiest and most powerful people were connected to a guy who ran a literal child sex trafficking ring? And then that guy died mysteriously in a jail? And now we just don't talk about it.

I met with people who go directly to the Oval Office. We had a several hours discussing Alberta independence. Their response was very enthusiastic. They want the third-largest oil field freed from communist Chinese control.

Poilievre might have received a strong mandate from the delegates who showed up (87.4%), but the schism in the party is obvious. Some prominent names did not show up and didn’t support. I think we will see a few disgruntled MPs crossing the floor in the coming days.

I endorsed Pierre the first night he decided to run and I support him today. Pierre has championed the challenges of working Canadians, and understands that the status quo on domestic policies will not lift Canada up. I’ve been very clear with Pierre about my major disappointments with his last campaign. I believe in his vision for our country, and that he deserves another shot to earn the trust of Canadians and be Prime Minister. He understands the need to develop our resources to protect our sovereignty and create the jobs of tomorrow. Pierre will help Canada unleash the prosperity we so desperately need!

It’s hard to be that optimistic about the Conservatives these days. Pierre is the most popular leader the party has had in decades, and yet he’s still hitting a kind of existential ceiling where he can’t risk doing anything too different without blowing up this coalition. Obviously there are a lot of Canadian voters who hate Pierre on a deep personal level — the polls reflect that. But Pierre was also much more electorally successful than more “likable” leaders like Scheer and O’Toole, so it’s not clear if a change in his personal style is really the biggest issue here. A lot of voters likewise seem to complain that he didn’t talk about “kitchen table issues” enough even though his entire campaign strategy — one that all objective political observers have acknowledged — was to focus in on practical middle class economic anxieties like the cost of groceries and the size of paycheques. At the same time, I hear from a lot of conservative “base” voters and influencers who are kind of getting exhausted with Pierre for the opposite reason. Even though he’s the most combative party leader we’ve seen in ages, they feel he hasn’t been combative enough, or has focused TOO MUCH on focus-groupy “kitchen table issues” at the expense of larger, more fundamental issues of Canadian freedom and economic survival. They often think he’s been too anti-American, which is interesting because you’ve got this whole other faction of voters who think he’s too pro-Trump. The whole situation feels very impossible, and very stuck in the unique circumstances of our moment, which includes Trump, the collapse of the NDP, the fact that Prime Minister Carney is unusually well-liked for a Canadian politician, and certain structural problems with the Canadian economy. It’s worth remembering that not too long ago, Pierre was poised to possibly win the largest Conservative landslide in Canadian history not doing anything terribly different from what he’s doing now. So I feel bad for him, because life must feel extremely frustrating form his perspective, to feel trapped in a sort of limbo where you’re somehow doing everything right and everything wrong at the same time.

I have a new piece in the Toronto Star looking at the tension inside today’s Conservative coalition: stay the course with confrontation, or shift tone and priorities to win over accessible voters. Read it here: thestar.com/opinion/contri…
