Looking at ECNL/RL standings out of curiosity and there are examples where a team is 0-12 has scored 1 goal and conceded ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY GOALS!!! What are we doing 😂

Detroit is special. Where else can you go to all four major sports stadiums within a five minute walk? Tigers Lions Red Wings Pistons Soon to be about a 3 minute drive to DCFC.

@jcardosoh @TaylorTwellman @Bonetti The problem isn’t the number of foreigners in Serie A. It’s the reliance on foreign goal scorers. Italy stopped developing strikers and now has only 1 player in the top 10 in Serie A

@TaylorTwellman @Bonetti Foreigners aren’t the difference, every top league has them. Italy is actually #2 in foreign player share in Europe (≈67%), just behind England (≈70%). And yet England is producing elite talent again. The difference isn’t who you sign. It’s what you do with your own players.

Italian issues were rightfully discussed by the great Roberto Baggio. (@Bonetti with the great summary of those). Funny how that 1st one resonates with me.

@kev_egan Howard, Keller, or Friedel. Hands down. Goalie has gone from greatest strength to biggest liability.

@BeneSB_ Teaching players to dribble still requires decision making. When to pass when to dribble. However, possession requires players capable of outplaying the opponent 1v1 and being press resistant. It’s also necessary when teams sit deep. Plus dribbling is more exciting

People want to develop individual players. So they go and say: "let them dribble. Let them express themselves." The problem is: this teaches football from an individual perspective. Players do what is good for them. But this inherently limits them. Because they don't see the many options they'd have if they attack together. Possession-based football doesn't suppress players. Players have MORE options to dribble. More options to be creative. More options to "express themselves." Because they see the game from a team perspective. What's good for the player becomes what's good for the team.

Youth sports & sports in general have jumped the shark. The whole thing is cheesy & overkill. It’s destroyed Sundays & family and is truly an ideology / religious practice. This worship of competition. It’s zero chill. Antisocial. It has zero culture. There are niche exceptions.

The ACL epidemic in youth athletes, especially female athletes, is out of control. To me, it's at the point where it's sickening. Young athletes and their parents need more education on injury prevention, load management, and should be acting on what they learn…

@chrisman I’ve done extensive research on this topic regarding PE firms and youth sports. I can at this point almost objectively tell you that virtually everything that goes on “behind the scenes” in youth sports is PE owned now. Events, leagues, platforms, software and tech, etc.

@IHateSoccerPod My favorite was the guy saying essentially “17 yr old Americans not being about to compete with 22 yr old Europeans is a development problem.”

I’m getting a kick out of the internationals in college soccer conversation… Especially the deeply thought out responses like “Get over it” And “Boo hoo, be better than” I’m going to say this to you when AI takes your job in 3 years.

You’re not getting it Tom. I’m not trying to show this is the *only* way. But it is the *best* way to be a top 100 player, as evidenced by the top 100 players (you can argue over how accurate that list is obviously). If there is a better way to be a *top* player, show me the data that supports it? You can’t because the story of the top players is almost always the same.

Soccer coaches are hilarious. Rip on private training for not being realistic while their sessions are consistently 6v2 to goal while the defenders are “passive.” I truly hate soccer.
