Kemi’s political instinct is not to lead, but to linger at the back of the crowd until the direction is obvious, then stride to the front and declare herself the pioneer.
On the hate marches, as on leaving the ECHR, she was not ahead of the argument. She was dragged there by events, by public anger, and by the unmistakable sense that the country had already moved without her. Only once the position became safe, and the consensus among the party grassroots undeniable, did she find her voice.
That is not leadership. Leaders shape events. They do not emerge from the undergrowth once the battle is already won and claim to have fired the first shot.
This is the pattern. Delay. Hesitate. Calculate. Then arrive late, wrapped in the language of conviction. It is opportunism dressed up as courage, and too many mistake the costume for the real thing.

A few observations on @KemiBadenoch’s performance:
1. She’s struggles so badly when she has to think for herself without a script provided. It’s why she comes across as short-tempered, as she’s projecting her own personal limitations
2. It’s like the first time she’s heard the reality that the Tories performed very badly at the local elections. She actually bought into the myth pushed by the online young London Tory that it was a success
3. She states that Boris Johnson’s leadership was the height of conservatism. Another Freudian slip that shows she is just another uni-party liberal

Whoever is the Labour leader and therefore Prime Minister please consider these points which won’t change.
Here are 4 things that happened to the UK in the last week.
1. The Labour government confirmed it will remove the right to a jury trial. Cases will be tried by a judge alone.
2. The Labour gvt confirmed it will impose Digital ID despite it never being included in Labour's manifesto and nearly 3 million Brits signing a petition against it.
3. The Labour gvt confirmed we will "align" with the European Union, directly going against the 2016 democratic vote for Brexit & forcing the British people to pay billions for laws they'll never be able to influence.
4. The Labour gvt confirmed that while Islamist sympathisers & antisemites are free to march on the streets of our capital city, & while it welcomes former allies of al-Qaeda into Downing Street, it has banned conservative activists from joining a peaceful protest against mass immigration in London.
Put all these things together and you get a sense - just a sense - of how hideously authoritarian and illiberal this Labour government really is.
I am utterly sick of living under this government. How about you?
