I'll have @mipsytipsy on The Pragmatic Engineer Podcast, and we'll talk observability. What would you like to ask?

@tompahoward Tom, how do we break away from this? Devs I have worked with want to be assigned to tickets and they want to go into the ticket details, without, I feel, really understanding the overall picture

@fortelabs I have used OneNote at work but for personal use it's painful. In chrome, the web clipper is buggy. And it seems incapable of storing twitter bookmarks. Copy and paste not good either as loses the formatting. Evernote much better on those items. Thoughts?

It is a LOT more common now! 🙌 I actually gave a talk on this last week in Dublin at SRECon called ✨The Engineer/Manager Pendulum Goes Mainstream✨ The gist: moving back and forth used to be rare. Now it isn't, but we haven't added any institutional support for it.
Gergely Orosz@GergelyOrosz

Another engineering manager I know changed jobs to become an engineer again, and it makes me happy to see that the manager - engineer "pendulum" (as @mipsytipsy calls it) is a lot more common these days. Being a manager is a role: and engineers sometimes take it up. For a while.

I just got back from @fintechdevcon in Austin. It was a super fun trip (notwithstanding the 105 degree air 🥵). I gave a new talk while I was there, on why compliance and regulatory standards are ✨not✨ incompatible with modern development best practices.

Remote Pair Programming Good Practices: A Thread. Found the slides of a presentation that @qcoding and I gave to the entire CTO Org at Amex two years ago when we were both there. Thought it had a lot of great stuff that could still be useful to others. Why not share? 🧵

"[Many] computing pioneers, the ones who programmed the first digital computers, were women. And for decades, the number of women in computer science was growing. But in 1984, something changed. The number of women in computer science… plunged." npr.org/2022/12/07/114…

@tottinge Just had a convo about the same topic with my friend @alexbunardzic. Most teams prefer resource efficiency over flow efficiency, resulting in long lead times and huge wastes. Instead of optimizing at the level of individuals, we should be optimizing for delivering features.

Seriously, you have no idea how must waste, blockage, delay, communication failure, risk, and interpersonal conflict is CAUSED by working solo on separate partial, dependent tasks. If you start to see it, it will break your heart. It is so much unnecessary work and trouble.

Why are you not working with Azure Functions? ⚡ I had the opportunity to work with Azure Functions on several projects, and I have consistently been impressed with their capabilities. For those who may not be familiar, don't worry. Let me give you a brief intro. 🧵
