…Aand Claude Opus models are gone from github copilot lineup, probably because everyone was using @AnthropicAI opus models to code, and Microsoft wants to start training on user inputs..

Hot take: there is absolutely nothing wrong with GitHub asking to train Copilot on input data, but they should have to pay you for that, or at least give you Copilot for free, not the other way around. That’s usually the tradeoff: use something for free and you become the product in some way, whether through ads targeting or model training. Pay for a service and your data stays private and is only used to provide the service. @github

@Dearme2_ Without a doubt Baraka. It stretched my understanding of life and our civilization on Earth. It is also a great conversation piece because it has no narration: just visuals

Reading is so powerful now because, in a culture of doing so many things at once, it's stubbornly singular, when you're doing it you can't do anything else, you can't think about anything else, it demands all of you

The Soviets had the hammer and sickle, the Nazis had the swastika, the Aztecs had the eagle and snake, the Ottomans had the crescent, Jews have the Star of David, Christians have the crucifix, and we have cats and rainbows. Our civilization will be remembered for its cat and rainbow iconography 🌈😹 What values do our symbols encode? What, exactly, are we pledging allegiance to?

Launching on April 1st meant I got back in time to celebrate my 23rd wedding anniversary with Catherine today! Grateful to be able to share this zero g photo of my wedding ring in person over dinner tonight… as well as some cuddle time on Earth.

We speak so much about the future in terms of convenience, speed, and portability. But we should remember that we are social animals. The tools we build now must preserve the traces of our culture across generations, or our progeny will inherit collective amnesia. I would quite like the library of the future to feel a little less antisocial.

And you should be able to inherit a digital library properly. Not rent it for one lifetime and then let it vanish. If I bought the book, I should be able to pass it on once, permanently, without keeping access myself.

I had an arresting thought while reading an Agatha Christie novel I inherited from my grandmother. It made me think: what exactly will my children and grandchildren inherit from me, if most of my library now lives on Kindle?

Gradient descent is a powerful tool for optimization spaces that verify the manifold hypothesis, but the space of reasoning is discrete and combinatorial. GD fails in cliff-like landscapes where a single discrete change (a logical step) alters the entire outcome. Unless...???
